You have a stone bed?

You know you're Korean when...

It came with the apartment...

I'm meeting up with someone to do the old pay if forward - 10,000 acts of kindness/karmic thing today.

Also, watching 2 movies.

Wallace and Gromit - Curse of the Were rabbit and passion of the Bejesus.

Sarah, don't let the rain stop ya! You can skulk around underground and still have plenty to do.

donno, it looks pretty good to me! Very Happy

The top picture's good. Do you make that or go out for it?

Now, what's revolting is the bottom picture. I'm pretty sure those things in the small dish in the back are insects. Had one before. One. They taste like mud of something.

both. even though i love cooking, when i am drinking with friends i can't be bothered to cook, so i usually go out for it. i agree, beondegi (specifically, nu-e beondegi - silkworm pupae, which is what koreans eat and is in that picture) is not good. i've tried them once. they taste awful but i can stomach them. (a few weeks ago at the korean folk village in suwon i saw a grandma spinning silk from a boiling pot of them. that was interesting)

I thought that's what it was. 번데기?

My friend introduced the place to me. There was that yellow raddish kimchi (whatever you call that), dried squid (too tought), peanuts, banana chips, and whatever. The draft beer was served in a big wine bottle. The restaurant had a 70s flavor. There were a bunch of LPs behind a booth and old TVs used as decorations. Strange concept, but interesting. That was this winter and it was pretty chilly inside. There was also an old wood stove in the center. Kind of a Korean nostalgia kind of place.

Anyway, I reached for one of those silk wormies not knowing what it was a plopped it in my mouth. Ate it, but realized pretty quickly that it was a bug. My friend said, "I dont' like those." Yeah, no kidding. Thanks.

That first picture is tha Korean pizza deal. I'm really bad with names. Don't know what it's called. Anyway, met some Koreans in Seoul not long ago and one guy ordered what looked lilke the Japanese version of that (I say that because it's round). It had some sort of soft bread-crust on the bottom and smelled really fishy when the brought it out. Turned me off until I decided to try some. Pretty good. The fishy smell was gross though. Had some sort of seafood on top. Maybe shellfish.

1. make kickass pasta
undercook any pasta u like.
preheat a deep dish fry pan with olive oil n butter n garlic.
put undercooked pasta in pan and cook in oil, butter n garlic.
add seasoning, korean red pepper powder (it gives a lil bam), pepper, sea salt, italian seasoning, basil. add tomato sauce, mix up cook in sauce for 2min.
than ur done.

2. kiimchi bokum twist
ingredients:

kimchi
garlic
onions
korean red pepper
pepper
beef stock (da shi da)
pork belly
honey
sesame seeds
pine nuts
red wine or korean rice wine

boil large slab of pork belly about 50%
get large frypan w/lid high heat then lower to medium heat
add sesame oil or vegi oil
add kimchi about 1n half pound
add all other ingredients above
add chopped pork belly
splash red wine or rice winr
add honey about 3 table spoons
and pine nuts sesame seeds last
cover n let cool down about 5 minutes

then eat it

oh yeah, cook until the kimuchi starts to caramelize from the honey. the sweetness should take some of the spicyness away, so add as much as u need.
add as much of the ingredients above to your liking.
warning: this dish is so good you wont be able to stop eating.

(invite someone u like. oh and, dont forget a bottle of soju...)

The wind is howling outside my apartment, it's been raining off and and on all day. It is miserable and wet.

My Sundays are usually "me" days. I go outside, ride my bike, maybe go shopping. But doing any of those things would result in me being cold and wet.

So what do you like to do when the weather makes it not worth doing anything?

I'm in a pickle, too. I don't have any shampoo left and I want to take the bus to the nearest town to do some shopping and maybe meet a friend. I jokingly threw away an umbrella a while ago. Had another one, but it might be at the school. Guess a hat will do, but I have to get dressed, walk to the super, get shampoo, come back, take a shower, get dressed, walk to the bus stop, buy an umbrella on the way,...

It just seems to bothersome.

Today, I woke up earlier than usual and ate cheetos, dried squid, and drank some guava soda. Watched "Astronaut Farmer" (pretty good), studied a Korean dialogue, learned "Rocket Man" on the guitar, surfed the net, just ate some crab, etc.

Guess I should get out.

6:42

If I leave now, I can catch a bus back from the nearest city. Last bus back to my place is 8:50. Miss the bus = 20,000 taxi ride.

To shop or not to shop. Guess if I go, I probably should take my time and have a drink, too. Got the umbrella and shampoo. Took a shower. Had two coffees. Hmmm.

Decisions, decisions.
