| I'd really like to stay with a Korean family for my next teaching job. Has anyone done this and can you provide me with information on how to set up such a thing? THANKS. |

Apart from the other drawbacks the above posters mentioned, you will likely be expected to teach English to the children at the homestay (if there are any there) and for FREE. So after a day of teaching at the school you will be expected to head straight home and spend another 1-2 hours teaching the kids at home. Plus you will be expected to adhere to the family curfew...they don't want someone who will come in after a night drinking at bars..they need their sleep as Koreans tend to work long hours.
If that doesn't sound like enough fun yet, consider that you will virtually have no privacy on weekends or weeknights...the kids will likely have free run of the house...not to mention you could get stuck with some adjoshi who figures FREE English for the kids and free "whoopie time" for him. |

Add in Koreans will not let you spend a second of your life alone. They will want to go everywhere with you and will have every one of your weekends planned. And if they're Christian. Oh boy. First they will consider it their religious duty to rip you off. Second they will preach to you every waking second. Third they'll drag you to their church every sunday. "Look, we've saved a whitey!" |
