Possible reasons include:

- culture

- you consider teaching in Korea to be a serious career

- paying off debt

- no one else would employ you / you are unemployable in your home country

- you face a lengthy term of incarceration if you go home

- you are in a relationship which has become *serious*

- you have been here too long and can't possibly imagine being anywhere else.

What else have I failed to include ?

Why not be here?

Other options could include:

- Experience (as in "what the hell, I'll go for a year and have an experience)

- Experience (as in "get some in-class hours" experience as a teacher)

- Travel

- As SPINOZA would say, because it's a doddle (or some such expression)

- Family

- Learn Korean

- To pi$$ off the old-school xenophobic adjoshis

To throw a hite bottle at some old korean guy outside Family Mart. Then when he recovers from the blow....give him a flying dragon uppercut ala Street Fighter 2.

I was a teacher in Australia and enjoy teaching. However I thought my third year in the same school might lead to a little boredom, so thought I might wander the wide world for a decade.

Korea was an easy place to get a job, good money and a nice start. Glad I came.
