How fast can you count to ten in Korean? Which one do you count faster? Pure or Sino-Korean?
With pure, I get screwed up at 10. With sino, I get screwed up at 6, and a bit at 7. It's because there are two.
If you really want to test your fluency in a language, test how fast you can count to ten.
Mine, beginning from best, are:
English
French
Chinese
Pure Korean
Sino-Korean
I think my pure Korean counting is better because I think it's used more. And there's a tukeummusul martial arts school in the basement of my hagwon and they count the numbers out really loud. Hana, dul, set, net, taseot, yeoseot,... |

If your really want to test your fluency, try counting down from 10 ..... Much more difficult. |

To learn the numbers I was taking the odd little bit of time during class, when the students were occupied, and making a list of roman numerals, 1 - 10, down the board, but in jumbled order.
Then I would write the Pure Korean and Sino Korean next to them.

Not meaning to nitpick (okay, yes I am), but I wouldn't equate fluency with basic counting speed.
But I do like the post, btw. |

Oh, noo!!! Not the lame retort!!! Please don't do that to me!!
Hey, I just thought it was a lame thread. Not so much because of your OP, but because of the 'who gives a shit' responses by people making lists.
Again, who cares? (I can count to ten!!! WHEEEEE!!!!) |
