| Or, better yet, use Fuji lenses on a Nikon. |

| Its a good model but the price is too much for a camera that old. Basically, how much shutter life is still left in it? It also has a standard lens so not the best idea for high quality photos. 550,000-600, 000 is perhaps a fair asking price. Anything over 600,000 is too much. |

well, you guys are entitled to your "opinions" about the price, but thats all they are. just shots in the dark of what you think. my price is based on what the used market value is asking for. unless you guys are gonna come up with a reasonable offer, save your breath.
ps. Korean_Man, ur ebay link went for $1,163.45 CDN for that 20D. |

Interesting question.
I have seen plenty of SLRs from the 60s and 70s with lots of use on them whose shutters still work just fine. In fact, I have a box full of them.
I know a newspaper photographer who uses an older version of this camera. He takes a zillion photos each day, and has for a few years with his Canon. There is nothing wrong with his shutter.
The pro models, such as this, probably are rated for more shutter exposures than the amateur models, such as the Canon Rebel, but that is likely around a million shots, if it is like the pro Nikons. At a thousand pictures per day, that would last you about three years. At 100 pictures per day, that would last you around 30 years.
Now, the question is, is anyone really planning to use this digital camera 30 or 40 years from now?????
Planning to pass it on the grandkids? I'd like to hear those comments.
I wonder what cameras are going to look like in 2037 or 2047.
Let's see, if we have 8 megapixels now, would we be up to 8 gigapixels, or 8 terrapixels by then? |

Gatsby,
I think the megapixel to tera/giga pixel transition will not be as important as making better quality sensors and better lens.
We all know of the barrel distortions in even the high end models. Colours do not always come out accurately even now. Shooting in the dark (no pun intended) is still a nightmare. I would be looking forward to those aspects more than the pixel race. BTW the increased pixels will be a side effect of all the sensor development.
Most pro cameras WILL withstand a lot of abuse and will survive for 30yrs easily. So no need to worry about the shutter speed. In general most of the dslr/slr owners take good care of their cams. Ofcourse one has to check the camera for any physical faults (mirror, sensor etc;)
A pro camera like 20D has very little depreciation. I having my own Canon and I like it a lot (350D).
IMHO what you need to know before buying the camera is whether will you put it good use? a DSLR used as a point and shoot camera would be like using a Bugati Veyron to plough a field. |

Gatsby,
Sorry, but the shutter life, shots, isnt around a million. Its around 50,000. I owned a 20 and they are great cameras. It is most likely possible that the camera will go beyond 50,000 shots. But how much one is willing to pay for a used 20, well I suppose that depends on the purchaser.
I now own a 30. Im using the same glass that was on my 20, a 24-70 red-ring. Im shooting similar quality pictures. I think the 30 has stepped up in overall performance. By the way, I sold my 20, with the standard lens, for 650,000 and was very happy with the sell. |
