anyone know what happens if you apply for the korean pension from canada? It's been a year since I applied and all I got was a letter 3 months ago that it was still being "investigated".

What the hell are they investigating for a year?

I applied before I left Korea. Went back for a visit six months later and the money was in my account. Spent most of it.

one more thing:

is the comment by the recruiter saying that the new job only pays into pension at the end of one year? Do employers have to pay in every month? or can they do a yearly lump sum??

I hope not...

They are required to pay quarterly. Check with the pension office to ensure your employer:
a) enrolled you
b) submitted your and his contributions correctly.

my employer told me that i was enrolled and i believed him without calling the office. 2 years ago, no one at the pension office spoke english i heard so i didnt bother to call. Would have been the same situation when i tried to call the gas company. Yes hello I have a problem with my bill does any speak english there, click, call back, say the same thing, they heard english again and hung up on me again. i was pissed off that day that a huge gas company cant hire an employee to deal with customers who may not speak korean

Sound like your employer didn't forward any money to the pension office.

I think its more to do with bureaucratic backlog & inertia rather than "investigation." Others on this forum have attested to one-year+ processing times when applying from Canada. Word to the wise: apply here before you go.
