how would u define each?
Koreans: people from Korea who have Korean citizenship
Gyopos: Koreans who may or may not have been born in Korea, but spent such a long time away that they no longer seem like Koreans.
what's the difference between each?
One has lived in Korea all their life and the other hasn't.
which do u 'like' more and why?
I really don't have a preference. |

koreans who lived in other countries are cooler, more fun and way more open. it's like they are a different "korean" race |

Koreans tend to look down on Gyopos, since they don't have a full command of the Korean language and culture.
Gyopos tend to look down on Koreans for being narrow minded, backwards, and xenophobic.

Of course we've all heard plenty of stories on this site about gyopos who look down on non-Korean foreigners who are in this country. I've never had a serious problem with one myself though, but I have met a few with a chip on their shoulder. |

native koreans are people who spent most of their lives here (duh).
there are basically two groups of gyo-pos, the version 1.5 and 2.0 (not my numbering system, something i picked up while i was in the States). 1.5 gyo-pos are basically those born in Korea and spent some time here before their family moved overseas (usually migrating). 2.0 gyo-pos are those that are born overseas or moved overseas when they were very young. 1.5 gyo-pos tend to have a decent grasp of the korean language and culture (they probably still speak to their parents in korean). 2.0 gyo-pos tend to have this interesting family dynamic, their parents speak to them in korean and they reply in english. i don't quite understand how that works but they don't seem to have too much trouble communicating with each other.

yup, and some come here with a good understanding of korean culture, while to others this place is as foreign as Timbucktoo.
I find it interesting to find out the reasons why they are here. For many that I've met, they are in search of their "birth parents" - some heart wrenching stories there. |

i started this thread after reading one of dmbfan's posts about how he can't even stand to hear koreans speak cos he's so sick of them, but hasn't met a gyo-po who he disliked, it just got me thinking that's all. |

Can't really tell the difference until they open their mouth and start talking. Gyopos speak English better than native Koreans. |
