I'm going to go with a recruiter for my first trip to Korea. if I get
stung or shafted (it looks probabale from what I read on here) at least I have a fallback to find somewhere else.

In regards the apartment, is it good form to ask if I can see photos
before I set off? Do recruiters have photos of the apartments that
you will be living in? What should I expect in regards of furnishings?

Photos are unlikely - even China fares better in this regard. As for furnishings, of course it varies, but expect the basics, ie a bed, stove, microwave, washing machine etc. More, such as a DVD player, is possible but not inevitable.
