Sorry guys, but it won't work. Korean cell phones work on a different system. This is due to change starting this summer, however, when a new, globally compliant system is going to take effect. For now, I would just get a cheapo pay-by-the-minute phone. Good luck.

This one works in 90 countries, including even Japan, plus GSM networks and the few remaining CDMA systems. It's about 520 USD.

This is for visits, not permanent relocation.

I don't think a HK cellphone would work in Korea.
But, it might in Canada. My UK cellphone works in HK, but not in Korea.

And some very expensive visits at that!

Indeed, but in my case, when I travel with two lines (a UK one and a Korean one) I have to carry 4 phones: 2 GSM - one each for UK and Korean SIM card -, plus one Korean only plus one Korean CDMA/GSM for my UK line to work in Korea.

And, if I can get it to work in reverse, i.e., with my UK SIM card, I could buy two and only have two phones to carry around!
