I had a Website in the United States, but it ran out.
I still have it recorded on a ZIP disk.
I want to start it back up.
What's the best way to find a Web server in Korea?

pay for hosting in the states like I do and then ftp the site up.

Dreamhost is good, but they've started using Google Checkout to verify credit card numbers. And Google Checkout doesn't allow for Korean cards.

I don't know what sort of material you have on there, but if you want to go the free route, a combination of Flickr, Facebook, YouTube, and Blogger should be able to handle most of your material for archiving/ reposting purposes.

I'll second Dreamhost, but they may be offering more than you need.

The industry standards for good yet cheap hosting are GoDaddy and 1and1.

I thank all of you, but I still don't know the first thing about copying from a ZIP disk.
How can I even use the ZIP disk, since it won't fit in the disk drive?

I tried two computer stores here in Anseong.
They both told me that they don't have a ZIP drive, that no other store in Anseong had a disk drive, and the closest place was Seoul.
Seoul is a big place.
Can anyone recommend a computer store in Seoul?

I have always use godaddy for registering my domain names, but since moving to korea, I have decided agasint using them in the future. I cannot make purchases through their website from here anymore. After finally calling their billing department, I was told that it was likely (likely? wth, how can they not know?) a regional block because of fraud, but there is no notification of that. I just get an error when trying to process any order through their site. Customer support was able to offer no help after numerous emails and even making me take and send screenshots of the error screen and gave no reason as to why it wouldn't work, other than telling me to call billing (you have to call the non-toll-free number as billing has no email address listed).

When I called, they were very nice and helpful, but shrug, a domain name registrar/hosting company that doesn't allow you to fully conduct business online is not getting my business on principal.


As far as your site, Dreamhost's hosting plans are quite cheap. I've heard of people having reliability issues with them, but for your average personal site, I wouldn't think it would ever be a problem. I wouldn't exactly expect to get everything they say they will give though, but I doubt that's a problem for the VAST majority of users. If the Google validation thing is a problem, just do some searches on hosting. There is a huge number of low cost hosting providers out there scrambling over each other to get business. Also, namecheap is another low cost domain registrar that is actually found to be cheaper than godaddy for some things.

As far as a zip drive, I could only suggest pilfering through every little shop in Yongson or maybe buying one from Ebay. I'm forced to wonder if it wouldn't be more trouble to find a zip drive than it would be to redo the site.

you'll probably want an external one unless you want to open your computer up and install it directly (which is where I'd imagine that the adapter bracket would come in), and so you'll need a power cord and a cable to attach it to your computer. which kind of cable will depend on which zip drive you get, and I would recommend getting one that comes with a usb cable (scsi technically means small computer system interface, but it what it really means in this case is worse than usb).
