Two days into my first public school job and I've just been informed that the principal has scheduled staff meetings .....get this....
EVERY day for the next two weeks. Is this normal?
At first I was told that I wouldn't have to attend, but then later told that I do have to.
He had a staff dinner on Friday, and another on Monday for "only the new teachers" ....both of which stretched well into the evening and ended up being more of a soju, raw fish extravaganza.
Today, at least we finished at 5:00, but what's up with this? Does anyone else have to attend these?
So far, the teaching is great ...(well compared to a hagwan), but the BS factor is making the job seem not so rosy at the moment.

Damn....I must be lucky. I haven't been to a sing meeting yet. I can count on 1 hand the number of meetings I've been to in my 10 months of teaching at my public school.
That sucks.... |

Man, I do hate staff dinners.
But if that's the worst thing about my job, well..... |

Yeah, I don't enjoy staff dinners much. But dinners with the Office of Education, which means a combination of Korean English teachers and native speakers, is good fun as it usually means good quality food and alcohol followed by karaoke and anju (snacks, usually fruit and dried fish), all free of charge. |
