The 2008 5 series, which will make its official debut at this week's Geneva Auto Show, will come with the intelligent Lane Departure Warning system (LDW), which will warn drivers if they are about to cross over a lane-dividing line without using their turn signal. |

The most safest thing about cars sold in Korea is the fact they don't have cruise control. Imagine the mess that would create if they did. |

I'm sure that the LDW circuit board would fry within a week in Korea! Hey, it would be constantly beeping and warning Mr. Kim of drifting to another lane.
One widely used "safety feature" that's driving me nuts is VERY LOUD radar detector on local busses. Why does it have to be so loud? Even deaf people can feel it, if not actually hear it. BEEP! BEEP BEEP! |

Who needs safety features when you've got hazard lights? Just flick those babies on and do whatever the hell you want because apparently that makes you bulletproof on Korean roads. |

They sell a phone that checks blood alcohol, too. And there is now a blood alcohol detector, made in Korea, which can be used in bars. People take a straw, stick it in a hole, and blow. Costs 500 won to check, or something. |

Traffic lights have not been accepted by the general public despite 50 years of having them. |

You have to be a mind-reader to drive here.
Strangely enough, I have developed this ability. I now just KNOW when they're gonna make a bizarre manuever about 1 second before they do it, allowing me enough time to plan ahead.
Boston drivers are certainly not world famous for being the best, but I think they are light-years ahead in the 'other-vehicle awareness' department. |

I think that's the low air pressure alarm. It warns the bus driver that the wheels are about to lock up pretty soon if he doesn't stop pumping the brakes (which releases air pressure from the system. Without air in the system, the springs push the brake pads against the wheel drum). At that point is when some of the bus driver begin using proper technique--downshifting--to reduce the speed of the bus. |

I like the ones who wear a helmet but don't do up the strap. Like a minor amount of friction is going to keep that helmet on in a crash. |

That's funny because I was telling people the other day that I can now anticipate some bone-headed retarded maneouvre before it happens and get ready with the horn and the old "You're #1 Buddy!" Following traffic rules is futile here and will only cause serious injury or death.
Now if only I could have that ESP about my constant last-minute schedule changes... |
