I just spoke with a recruiter at BCM who offered me a high school job. Sounds really good, 2.3+ OT @400,000 = 2.7m/month.

Is this a good gig? She said they have their own textbooks already. Teaching hours are 22/wk. I will be the only foreign teacher, though.

Are there any posters who have worked at a high school or Gyeonngi or both?

If I were you I would take it. Course, get clarification of your accommodation and stuff first, make sure its not miles away from the school.

Try to speak on the phone with some of the Korean English teachers there - they will be your potential colleagues and it'd be good to know what their level of English is actually like.

Check out the area. How far is the nearest subway, how long into Central Seoul?

As long as you are aware of what public school teaching actually entails, you should be fine!

Are you in Korea? If so, be sure to check it out. If you're not in Korea it sounds like about the best gig you could get from overseas. However, have you taught in Korea before? If not, just remember when you get here that you're not in Kansas anymore. Things that would seem perfectly logical to you may make no sense in a Korean HS and things that may make perfect sense to Koreans may be completely illogical to you.

I have a job with the Gyeonngi province and the school have been fantatsic. The accomodation was selected for me because it is 10 mins walk from the school and about 3 mins from the Railway station. They place all of their foreign teachers from the nearby schools in the same building so that we can meet each other easily outside of the school environment.

My contract was for 22 hours.. this week I have 16 45min classes and it seems that I will be doing much less than my contract expects each week. I have been told 4 classes each day, which is closer to 15 teaching hours...

As long as you don't mind being the only native speaker, take the job!

It sounds comparable to my job.

I think job offers in korea can only improve from now on, as they start to increasingly compete with China.

Korea isn't competing with china. There is too much of a disparity in pay between the two countries.

I am not with GEPIK... it is a deal the GPOE have sorted for themselves in my area as all the highschools are near each other. I also hear that the building owner is a former headmaster so there is probably some under the table deal going on there :p

And as for location... I had no idea gyeonngi province was so huge. I am located near Ganeung station which is at the other end of line 1 (North of Seoul). I know the province covers a few areas outside of Seoul but I had no idea just how much space it covered.

If it's a GEPIK contract check how much holiday you are going to get and also if you will be expected to be in school during the school vacation when you are not on vacation yourself.
