I want to continue my cycling while in Korea but I'm just not sure how practical that'll be. I ride in DC right now and that sucks enough but at least sidewalks are safe... is it at all feasible to do serious cycling in this city? I like to ride 40-60 miles but I don't want to spend 30 of those miles getting to decent roads.
Any thoughts? |

If you haven't decided on a place to work in Seoul yet, I would suggest somewhere near the Yangjae river (Yangjaecheon). Looks like this:

It's 15.6 km long but I'm not sure if the whole thing is worth biking on. Oh wait, I just found out that 5 km of it are suitable for biking. The trail's 3 metres wide. You might be bored with length that short but most of Seoul isn't worth biking on. |

Actually I'm moving to Junggyedong next month. I know it's rather suburban but the population density's still hella high. |

Tancheon (Stream) is also in Bundang and has lots of nice bike paths. It's connected to the Han River, which is also connected to Anyang River, both of which also have nice bike paths. |

I have seen many Korean bike riders well kitted out, but have yet to see one moving faster than about 15 kph (thats about 10 mph for the metrically challenged).

Up and down Namsan (Seoul Tower) is a choice place for bikers in Seoul, but you'll be ridind up and down the same courses a lot to get 30 miles in. |

There's a canal near JunggyeDong with bike paths on both sides. This canal goes all the way down to the Han River and all the way up to Uijongbu. You can bike for hours without dealing with any traffic at all. It's a bit smelly though.
It's great during the week when there aren't so many people on the paths, but I avoid it on weekends as the paths are packed with bikes, rollerblades, walkers, dogs, kids, etc... |
