Back in the '80s I used to work for my university radio station and there was this one female DJ who had this great voice (wet and sexy sounding) but she was shaped like a potato, red hair, freckles. Nice enough person. She's still my friend today, but the voice surely led many male listener astray. Anyway, to make a long story short, she started falling for this one guy who would call in to make requests. He only knew her from her voice. She only knew him from his voice and his musical taste. He came by her work (her day job) without her knowing, saw she was a short potato shaped woman, and stopped calling. The end. She found out he came by her work, saw her, and rejected her on sight. She was quite hurt.
When I started using the net and chatting with women, I realized this was a similar situation to my radio days. I was (and still am) careful never to make any kind of promises beyond friendship when I chat with a woman online. So I never actually had one of those situations where I made some kind of online emotional promise to a woman, met her in real life, saw that she had a lot of junk in the trunk, and then had to blow her off online.
Of course, my friends...
One friend got rather swept up by this one woman. They decided to meet for a movie date. She was going to wait for him at a street corner and she was going to be wearing a green dress. He was driving by the corner, saw her, nearly lost his lunch, and considered driving on... to the nearest strip bar. But he figured he better do the upstanding thing... She was still all fired up, though, from their cyber sex talk and couldn't keep her hands off of him at the movie. He made a bunch of excuses about not being able to go home with her because he had a big camping trip planned for the next day...
I think these days with web cams and digital cameras and the ability to take very recent photos makes these kinds of mistakes lesson common. But I dunno. Got a juicy story? |

The cool thing about that was having a mail slot! Back before email, if you had a mail slot some place on campus people could leave you notes and messages. You were a big man on campus if you could say "just leave it in my mail slot". I once actually had 3 mail slots. One for my radio show, one because I was arts editor at my uni paper, and one for communication with my thesis prof. Three! I RULED THE UNIVERSITY OF WINDSOR. |

What's so wrong with red hair and freckles?
I went to Bowling Green. It was a right of passage to go up to Windsor and get drunk when you turned 19. |

I used to work for the community station in my city too. There was this one show where the two hostesses had very sexy voices, but in person each of them was over 250 pounds. |

Me, it was the friend of my roommate. She'd call for him when he was gone to work, so we'd chat. I didn't mind. I was bored, she seemed like a nice person, and she had a great voice. It was pretty innocent, strictly small talk. I made the mistake of casually mentioning to him that I thought she had a nice voice...which he told her. She started to sound as if she was interested in me, but I was a bit cautious, not having ever seen her. I didn't want to ask my roommate what she looked like by fear the he'd make it worse by telling her that I was interested. When she finally came to visit, my friend made himself scarce. I was hoping she'd be cute when I opened the door, but she wasn't. Worse, she wasn't as witty as she sounded on the phone. I was stuck playing host to this girl until my friend showed up. |

I have a story about a woman who arranged a date online obviously not on cam, or perhaps on a bad quality cam.
My ex-boyfriend was standing in our town centre outside a bookshop called WHSmiths. Suddenly a girl accosted him 'oh you must be Steve!' she said. Before my ex could reply, she continued 'you said you would be outside Borders' (another bookshop about 100 metres away).
Ex b-f not one to miss an opportunity replied 'oh sorry about that' she continued 'and you said you would be wearing green trousers'.
'Yeah I changed my mind,' said naughty ex b-f. 'Anyway I will treat you to coffee' said the intrepid internet dater. 'Okay' said ex b-f. As the date continued and his information continued not to match her expectations, the dopey girl said 'you lied about everything!'
'I guess so' agreed ex b-f.
At the end of the morning they said their goodbyes and agreed to continue their 'friendship' online. Whether the real Steve was left waiting faithfully outside Borders we will never know. Anyway ex-b-f came home mightily amused with himself.
The best of it is he was Iraqi and how she confused him with someone called Steve who presumably spoke (or typed) fluent English is difficult to imagine...... |

I once agreed to meet this very good looking guy- in pics that is- that I chatted with for a while online.
We met and I didn't know where to run faster. I made up an excuse and bailed home after 30 minutes of him blabbering about how beautiful I am..and how he used his friend's pics to meet women...pathetic piece of sh**..he kept calling me for weeks until I got sick of him and his "eternal love" speech and put my dad on the phone.
Years later I met my soul mate online and we are happily married now |
