I have two new teachers at my school that are fresh off the boat. They have all of these "brilliant" ideas and think that they have everything figured out. Is it just youthful exhuberance or what? They both had friends that taught in Korea, so maybe that is why they think they know it all. It's so annoying. Arrgh! Thank god my contract is up soon at that school. |

maybe the fact that being a teacher here isnt all that difficult and when 2 teachers come in fresh off the boat and apply a little common sense to the mess that is your hagwan it makes you insecure |

Nope, insecurity is not a problem that I have ever faced. Ignorance to a culture and business is what I can't take! |

I am a professionally certified teacher from the US. I taught there for several years before coming here. My reasons for coming here? Who cares? The fact is that it annoys me to no end when people with no qualifications to teach anything show up here and question the system of education here. |

You don't need a professional teaching qualification to notice problems with a country's education system.
esetters, you sound really bitter. Don't get pee'd off because ppl can come here with no teaching qualifications and do your job just as good or better than you.
Having a teaching qualification doesn't mean someone is a good teacher. Your personality and the relationship you can build with kids is much more important |

I used to believe this, and to some extent I still think its true. Having a teaching qualification doesn't mean someone is a good teacher. But it does mean they are trained to do the job.
These days I think more along the lines of 'if someone feels they are a gifted teacher, why wouldn't they seek the appropriate training and certification for the job?'
It just makes sense.
I forgot how much agro newbies suck. It makes me feel better about being the only foreign teacher at my school. |
