Just hand 3 interviews today. NONE of them offered Pension. Is Pension still mandatory or is it a thing of the past???
One, 5% tax, 5 day vacation, and 0 sick days. When told them 3.3% is the real rate and asked them where the other 1.7% goes, they were dumbfounded. Sick days. You know that it is required by law that teachers get paid 3 sick days right? Yes, but they call in and have to pay a teacher to take over for them.
Oh my gosh, what kinda crap is out there??? Isn't there a shortage of Foreign teachers in Korea???? |

Yes, pension is required by law.
Yes, there is a shortage of teachers.
BUT there is no shortage of newbies who get all starry eyed and are willing to sign anything to get over here.
Do you research and you can have a good change of being successful at your foray into Korean ESL.
Don't do your research and you will get burned. It is a promise and a 100% double your trouble guarentee. |

Trafficking of English Teachers?
There are numerous other examples of this one employer breaching contract terms at whim. And these breaches are replicated across the country by hundreds, if not thousands, more employers....
Speak to most native-speakers teaching English here and they will have a multitude of firsthand experiences or have knowledge of coercion, intimidation, non- or under-payment of wages, withholding of passports and/or university testimonials, fraudulent deduction of money for non-existent health insurance, turning off heat and water supplies to apartments should teachers threaten action with the authorities, and many, many more such incidences.

... And Koreans wonder why there is a shortage of properly qualified ESL teachers in Korea. |

I was quoting Korean Law in my interview. I have to admit when I was a newbie, I was none the wiser though.
The thing is, many of the K managers in the English industry lived in the west and know what they are doing is wrong, yet don't G.A.F. |

No, the most k managers in the English industry never lived in the west, that's why they are....

| Finally, took care of business. The sweet relief, oh the pressure has been lifted from my shoulders. I'm sure that the job i will be starting is 90% legit. |
