Unlike you slow-witted, slow-moving whitey dullards of the species, the entire population of the People's Republic of China has already seen 300. Twice. At home. Generally, they found the film too talky, too static, too art-housey. But that's high praise indeed compared to what the U.S. broadsheets had to say.

The New York Times: "'300' is about as violent as 'Apocalypto' and twice as stupid."

The Boston Globe: "The title of '300,' the new piece of Hollywood action porn, refers to the number of Spartan warriors who futilely but audaciously took on the Persians oh-so many centuries ago...They appear to have spent the entire production at whatever gym Hercules went to. Indeed, if you happen to enjoy spending almost two hours watching a bunch of worked-out UK thespians battle for the survival of Hellenism in only sandals, leather codpieces, and vermilion capes, run don't walk."

The Wall Street Journal: "Being a Spartan, the movie tells us, was about pride, pecs and abs. Being a Persian was about leering, body piercing and, particularly in the case of the bass-boosted Xerxes, bejeweled preening; his costume would be a stunner on any runway in the modern world."

"Despite cool visual effects,'300' is overbearing and laughably self-serious"

300- great if you loved the com- er graphic novel, not so great if you were looking for anything else. Got dragged to see it tonight, and I got more amusement from the reviews of the movie on Rotten tomatoes

You don't go to Hooters for the chicken wings - no matter what you might tell your wife - and you're not going to 300 for the plot nuances.

and that was considered a positive review!
