I called Seki Satellite and asked about their 35 English channel package. They said it costs 2.2 million won -- 1 million for the dish and equipment (which becomes the property of the owner) and 1.2 million for one year of fees.
The site says you get 91 channels, including ESPN Int'l Atlantic feed and a host of sports channels. BBC Prime direct from Britain is also available at certain times.
I'm thinking I might get one when I buy my own apartment, but anyone have this package? Here's the link.

I don't know much about the package you're looking at, but consider:
I've got Skylife and HD TV from Hanaro. In fact, my highspeed cable internet, home phone and HD TV are all from Hanaro and cost only 37000 a month as a package. The HD TV is mostly internet tv, you download your programs, very fast; there are a ton of shows and movies there. Throw in the skylife for sports and news at around 20. So for 57000 a month, you've got all your media covered, which is half the price that you'd pay for only 35 English channels.
Skylife does have the channels you mentioned, if I'm not mistaken, and their dish is cheaper. 91 channels? I wouldn't waste my money on that. |

Have you ever been to Phillies? They use that satellite system. A lot of people go there to watch tv while they drink in the afternoons. |

There was no time restraints on the package, or so my wife says. Hanaro is just trying to grab as big a market share as possible.
Their homepage is http://www.hanafos.com/ |

Did you get the HD receiver free or did you have to pay for it? I'm thinking digital cable is the better deal.
Skylife does NOT have many of the channels offered by the Seki satellite, please check the channel lineup. |

Is digital cable the same or different than satellite? If different do you have an English link?
I am trying to decide on the best deal.
Thanks. |

Digital cable differs by region and can offer slight differences in channels. I lived in Seodaemun-gu but recently moved to Mapo-gu, and the Mapo-gu provider did NOT have TV5, a French channel. But the Mapo-gu place did have a better convertor box with a video component input. The difference in picture quality was good.
Skylife offers a few exclusive channels like the all-English feed of Sky Sports, BBC Prime (subtitled in Korean) and others. I asked a Korean friend about Skylife and he says he's read negative reviews of it from Koreans.
Don't forget that satellite TV is more susceptible to weather like rain and storms. |

I cant see many appartment complexes allowing you to have a 2.1 metre dish anywhere.... According to the site the OP posted, thats what you need. |

Only one cable company in Mapo-gu and that's C&M. It gets most channels if you opt for digital cable, but it doesn't have TV5. I think Skylife also gets CCTV but I believe it's the channel in Chinese, unlike CCTV 9 that is completely in English. |
