I teach at a uni out in the boonies. Basically, the rejects who couldn't attend uni in Seoul because of low test scores come all the way out here to get the uni experience.

To be frank, these people are dumb as $hit. I look into their faces during lecture and realize there is not much there for these people upstairs.

Unis these days are just like hogwons. They seem more interested in the bottom line and making money than providing any real "education". No way these dumb fu<ks belong in any "university".

Maybe teaching isn't the proper job for you.

I would definitely regret it if I had a person with your attitude as my teacher.

I went to the University of Windsor, a Canadian university akin to your experience. I was briefly enrolled in Journalism but quickly changed my major when I realized how amazingly dumb 90% of the people in that major were. For a people whose job it would be to report on the world, they constantly displayed a general lack of knowledge of what was going on in the world.

If he says they are dumb.... they are probably are. It doesn't have anything to do with him not being a good teacher. Some people just can't be reached, and I'm sure the OP is referring to freshmen (emphasis on men). I've had plenty of horrible students/people. I've also been pleasantly surprised this semester to have, what seem to be 'mature' students. Yes, they are returning students beginning their second year, but the difference is night and day from last semester.

I think that trying really hard and going for top grades in high school leaves a lot of Korean students braindead afterward.

Do you always walk around with a stick up your corn hole? C'mon. The guy is just blowing off steam. Some of us use this board to do that. I guess you're always 100% happy and never have a problem with the quality of student before you? We all deal with stress in our own way. Some like to poke evil fun. Golly.

Yeah I've joked that I have a hard time believing my students are capable of tool use. I guess I must suck as a teacher too. When I'm in a class, I give my students my head and my heart. I keep a regular supply of snacks in my drawer. I bring them stuff back from Canada when I go home for a holiday. Really exceptional classes I spend my own money on Sunday field trips. I'm not there to punch the clown, bank my 10K a year, and go back to Canada with a Korean wife.

Sometimes my students are the butt of my jokes here. Boo hoo.

I think you would qualify for entrance as a student. Perhaps you should be lecturing yourself. Rolling Eyes

No. Not always.

The attitude in the original post sounds like a piss-poor attitude for a teacher.

Working at McDonald's, cleaning out toilets for a living or pan-handling, on the other hand....

Me am gots an opinions: teacher's work be to make dem kids unstupid.

And too, be them's intelijunce the mosts important thing about 'em?

Me am knowed a lot of smart people who is not cool. Know some jiggy folk who am right dumb, but dem gots me respect.

Gots to give 'em some love and respect if ya wants to make 'em grow. You know, the Sun's right dumb, but when him shines, lots of dem flowers blossom, and dey grass grows.

Love 'em, they'll love ya. Don't gotta be smart to know the best thing 'bout life! (Gotta start somewhere; then they'll respond to your lessons. Remember, the ego jumps up as a defensive mechanism. Watch for it, then beat the crap out of it. Keep coming back to the respect, no matter how hard it is. This is where the teaching begins. Then the deeper human intelligence will make itself known. Trust me; be strong and egoless, patient, and see what happens.)
