- Start class two minutes late
- Finish class two minutes early
- If you need to replace your marker, always wait until class time to go to the front desk to get a new one
- Photocopying = During class time
- You're hungry and working straight through - Eat your snack during class time
- In short, the time-honored saying "Always take a dump on company time"

I am sorry but crap like this PI$$ES me off. You feel you need to waste time in class. What kind of teacher are you. Obviously you are here for the money, and not to help some kids learn the language. So... get the F&^% out, and let someone teach them.

I have no time for slackers, and people who are looking for the lowest hours for the highest pay. Whoever does is in this industry for the wrong reasons.

You are LAZY, and should be slapped for it.

I don't know. I started this thread as a joke of some sort.

How long does it take to go get a marker? 10 or 15 seconds? How often do you run out of ink? 2 or 3 times a week?

Yes, ending class one or two mintues early happens once in a while. Like four or five times a month. Finishing class late also happens an equal amount of times. Or whatever.

I don't know about the snack thing. Sometimes you're hungry and ten minutes doesn't do it and you gotta finish those ramien noodles up. Or you buy kimbap, dokpokki, or something for the kids to reward them once in a while, so you go to the store with a couple of minutes left in class 'cause you're hungry to boot.

I was also thinking about how fast time goes by when you're teaching.

At the beginning of a lesson, I find it lame to just get right into it. Sort of sit back, talk, try to start a conversation. If a kid starts speaking English to me in the middle of the lesson, I drop everything.

I like to ease into it. Not all the time. It's just because when it gets right down to what we do, it's a lot of work and I'm right on top of them. Everyone's got to take their turn and I don't let them go until they get it as good as they can.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanywaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Has nothing to do with how good a job you do.

Yeah,

I agree - I think he/she posted this to start people laughing about those days when you really don't want to teach, but you have to and sometimes you find yourself sauntering to class a little slower than usual.

This is what I like to do (and by the way I LOVE to teach but once in a while I run out of steam):

- take a nice slow walk to my class and appreciate the posters in Korean that adorn the walls in my school
-quickly ask someone about something hoping that they'll have something really important to talk to me about and can't wait.
-make the students do a quick classroom clean up
-ask a student to get me more chalk
-go to the washroom - heck, sometimes it really can't be helped !
- have a quick review of classroom rules and if necessary get them to write them down
- once class has been finished, even if the bell hasn't rung yet, collect your things and just leave. This keeps students always on their toes !

**NB - This was written to make people laugh, so I don't want to be called digusting as I am just joking ... Wink

Now I think you are a wonjang-overlord.

My contribution:

Make the kids go sharpen their pencils;
Read hangeul I don't understand for the kids (that always has them in stitches);
Tell them I'm such a handsome guy (that will have them make an insistent attempt to convince me I am not handsome, and that I am, in fact, quite ugly);
Declare Japan the greatest nation in the world (hoolydooly, we could be there all night after that one);
Declare Australia's national soccer team superior to Korea's;
Play Blackjack with the kids;
Drag my XBOX to school.

Hangman a (seemingly?) fully acceptable form of time wasting.

Ha! One shot!

I play One Card with them and give the winner 500 Won. If I win, they get NOTHING. So I try to win.

Now they're addicted to gambling, but haven't played with them for at least a couple of weeks. Rehabilitation.

I used to play a game called Circle of Death or Kings. It does actually involve alot of English use so it works quite well. Plus you send the kids out after class with one of the all time great sugar highs.

Not only have they had fun but chaos has been served.

If you are really organized/systematic....it can all pass as language use/practice and good classroom management and really eat up the clock.

Appx. time

1- Wait quietly while the students mill around taking their seats...2 min.

2- Once seated... T- "Will you greet your teacher today?"
S- "Yes, I will."
T- "Stand up, please."
Wait quietly while the shuffle of chairs being pushed under tables subsides...
T- "Are you ready?"
S- "Yes, I am."
T- "One, two, three."
S- Students bow..."Good afternoon teacher."
T- "Good after noon boys and girls. Thank you.
Please sit down."
Wait quietly while the sound of chairs being pulled out subsides........ 2-3 min.

3- Take attendance...
T- "Let's see who is presest and who is absent today
boys and girls."
S- "Yes, teacher."
T- "John?"
S- "I am present."
T- "Sally?"
S- "She is absent."
By the time you've finished............. 2-3 min.

4- Instead of going to the washroom and getting a drink of water 'en masse'..........
T- "If you want to go to the washroom, or get a drink
of water boys and girls, please do 'rock, scissors,
paper' to see who is first." (each table seperately)
S- "Yes, teacher."
This takes about........... 2-3 min.

5- When they've finished 'R/S/P' (one from each table in turn)..........
T- "Who is first girls?'
S- "I am."
T- "Who is first boys?"
S- "I am."
T- "Who is second boys?"
S- "I am."
This continues as you stand at the door watching the hallway repeating, "Please don't run". "Quietly, please." "Don't run, please."
Good for .................... 3-4 min.

6- As they return........
T- "Get your book and workbook, please."
S- "Yes, teacher."
You guessed it.....another 2-3 min.

7- Time to go....
T- "Boys and girls....."
S- "Yes, teacher."
T- "Please put your book in your bag."
S- "Yes, teacher."
Again.... 1-2 min.

8- Time to line up.....
T- "Let's see who is first to line up today.
Please do your 'rock, scissors, paper,
boys and girls."
S- "Yes, teacher."
Again.... 2-3 min.

Total 20-25 min.

But, with individual corrections of pronunciation...maybe 30-35 min.

You're well on your way to the 'mythical' 5 million.
