Even if he married his first cousin it would be legal...in New York at least.

Ooo! Way to go Stevie. Equating gays with pedophiles.

Drinking Buchanan's koolade again?

Anyway, Octavius: Conservatives are just as pervy as anyone, it's just that they hate when it becomes permissible. Part of kink is the taboo, and if taking meth and having a masseuse spunk on your face isn't taboo, conservatives lose their wood. So why was Newt upset at Clinton's infidelity? Because most people were shrugging at it so his own infidelity wasn't nearly as exciting any more.

So basically, don't think of social conservatives as being overly moral, anti-sex/ anti-gay. Think of them as role-playing closeted bottoms trying to keep the "dirty" in their sex-lives.

Gingrich, like most pols, wasn't upset by Clinton's infidelity. He saw a chink in the armor of a popular, activist president and acted on it to push his agenda. It was a way to distract Clinton from pushing his policies. And the public from paying attention to more important matters. Democrats do it, too, though I think less effectively.

That's the problem with Washington, DC. There's a cynical, take-no-prisoners attitude among most elected officials where, if one says black, his 'opponent' is obligated (in his mind) to say white. I heard some pundit (George Will, I think) suggest it's partly because DC has gotten so expensive that the elected officials, especially members of the House, don't move to the District, but commute between the capital and their home districts, spending only three (or four , if you're lucky) days a week in their offices. They don't get to know each other personally, which makes it easier to be a-holes to each other. Thirty or forty years ago, politicians were able to compromise and work well between parties. Not so much today.

I think part of it is a f-uped system where we elect Congressmen every two years. They feel obligated to start campaigning for re-election the minute they are elected. (Though you could probably say the same about the Senate, too and their terms are six years.)

In the end, the people (and national integrity) lose.

I blame the cynicism on Nixon being caught with his pants down. He didn't do anything worse than many of his predecessors, but he got caught at the wrong time in American history, with a more involved public (especially student activism and a more 'prosecutorial' <activist?> press). A perfect storm for political malfeasance to be 'uncovered'.

Gingrich wasn't the only one who backed the impeachment of Clinton. Personally, I was opposed to such an extreme measure. (Guess that much shock you twg and Octavius, who've tried so hard to pigeon hole me).

But the real issue was perjury not the red herring of fidelity to one's spouse (something you would obviously know nothing about Octavius).

George Will is great at the very least because his writings defy the liberal stereotype of the neanderthal cons. Well put, gypsyfish. Imagine the media circus over JFK if it had been deemed appropriate in 1961.

No, I'm not implying all gays are pedophiles. Another feeble attempt to caricature me. I was being sarcastic, in keeping with the OP.

Republicans sure swore up and down that the impeachment was about perjury... bollocks. They went for it because the social conservative base saw it as about infidelity. Considering how unpopular it was I would say pretty much the whole country saw it as about infidelity, there were just disagreements over whether to make a big deal over blowjobs or not.

It was feeble, wasn't it? But you do such a fine job of it on your own, it's hard to take up the slack.

Ol' D$ck Face got impeached For PERJURY, not for having fun with some bimbo in the Oval Office. Contrary to what some ignorant Canadians believe, sex is not illegal in the US. Lying under oath before a judge is, as is using one's postition to sexually harrass a female employee (Paula Jones). Try doing what he did to her to one of your students and your buttocks would be on the next flight to Canada.

And actually, up until last year sodomy was illegal, it took the supreme court to strike down that stupid law.

So let's review up until 2006 anal sex was illegal in some US states. Very progressive.

Couldn't of said it better myself.

Ah, yes, here you come with that loaded code word "progress." From what I've garnered reading your posts on this forum, your idea of progress is degeneracy. So glad you're stuck in KimcheeLand. The Koreans deserve you.
