Am I a native speaker? Right, that's another great assumption buddy.
The context? It's a monster movie that is supposed to be entertaining (I haven't seen it and I assume it's pretty low brow but that's what I would expect from any monster movie other than Godzilla).
As for the foreigners that were deported. Koreans leave it up to the foreigners to make sure that they are legal in a lot of cases. These people aren't idiots, they're not children. So, why the hell should I feel sorry for them? Because they're foreign, I'm foreign, and I if I don't feel sorry for them then I'm a "traitor"? They knew what they were doing and they doing the possible consequences and if they didn't know that then that's just too bad.
You want to talk about context? How about bringing up something negative when it's not needed and not really related. |

| Only on this board could a question about a film devolve into yet another pissandmoan session on how unfair Korea is to foreigners. There are some real tossers that have popped up around here over the past six months. |

they should have deported the monster in that movie. can you imagine how much national pride it would have stirred up if some esse-suckin' immigration dude was the one who saved korea? |

Bae Du Na is the only one to go up against the monster.3 times at that. She rocks.I watched it on kmvmovielist, but that site stuffed up my computer.
Asides from her,if I want to watch a B film,I'd pick a far funnier one than that,not a Korean re-hash. |

| The movie sucked on multiple levels. Not just the opening scene where they dump the chemicals down the drain. The parts that were supposed to be funny weren't. the special effects sucked. when the monster ran it looked more comical than scary. There wasn't much suspense. I could go on, but I won't. there are much much better monster movies than this. |

people hate on the host because it has that one poorly acted part where the scientist, with very little conviction in his voice, says "yes, dump it in the han river" and because the rest of it is a cartoon.
but think of this - A GIANT MONSTER STARTS WRECKING SHOP IN JAMSIL AND APKUJEONG, EATING PEOPLE AND SPITTING THEIR BONES INTO THE SEWER. AFTER THAT, HOMELESS KIDS EAT RAMYUN AND THINK IT'S FOOD.
anyone who dislikes this movie is a moron. a dopey, dullheaded moron who doesn't know that monster movies are all about monsters killing people en masse and then getting themselves killed at the end, but of course leaving room for a sequel.
i'm willing to bet that the people in this thread who didn't like this movie also got at least a mild kick out of "apocalypto" and for that i'm challenging all of you to a fistfight, all at the same time. pm me for directions to said fistfight. |
I think the only reason anybody hates this movie is because the monster was created by an American. |

"Hagwon teachers appear in a high profile movie and are deported. Learn from their stupidity." Seems to me a valid aside on a ESL teacher message board. |

If he had said something like, "now those deported actors can pay full admission to finally see themselves" or something....
However, when it appears that something Korean is going to possibly succeed in the international market; what is his motive for bringing it up? |

Because it was an aside. He thought it was funny that one of the most viewed movies in Korean history resulted in a couple of us ESL teachers getting booted from the country? |

Actually, the absolute worst scene was the funeral scene. Was it supposed to be funny? Apparently it was, but rather it was just stupid. After that I could barely watch. I just can't stand the overacting of it. However, if that movie was aimed towards kids, okay fine, it is okay, but after hearing of how fantabulous it was from every Korean person this side of the 38th, I just thought it was pure shite.
Actually, I should also add, that about a week after watching it I was discussing movies with two K co-workers and they both mentioned how much they disliked it and told me better movies to watch. |
