have you heard of "doppler effect"? if you dont know what it is, you will never understand this "red/ blue shift" tendency of galaxies.

Off the top of my head (without googling): As the doppler effect is to sound waves, the red/blue shift is to light waves. A fast approaching train's pitch is higher because the forward motion compresses the leading sound waves. As it passes the pitch changes because now the sound waves are farther apart for the receeding train. We can tell if galaxies are moving away from us if the red end of their spectrum is elongated. If the galaxy is moving towards us the blue end of the spectrum is compressed. I believe there are rare examples of galaxies with a blue shift.
But when we say "moving" what we really mean to say is the universe is expanding. It's akin to a balloon getting bigger as you blow it up. If you're on the surface of the balloon and you observe dots around you, they appear to be moving away from you but what is really happening is the balloon is expanding. Each dot on the balloon would perceive themselves as being stationary and all the other dots moving away.
This is the point brother grim was making. Galaxies are not moving apart into empty space that was already there. They are moving because space itself is inflating. Red shift I do not believe establishes expansion, but neither does it establish the idea galaxies are flying apart into existing space. Either could be true if you're just arguing based on red shift. That you cited red shift in support of your belief indicates you were either not a physics major or you didn't get very far into the program before you switched to...?
(Blue shifted galaxies like Andromeda M31 are moving closer because of gravity. Just because there is expansion does not mean things close don't move towards each other due to gravity. Gravity can over come expansion.)
(I think the Hubble Law, the linear rate observed in the red shift of galaxies aside from those in the local group, argues for expansion of space itself vs galaxies rushing into existing space that galaxies haven't yet flown into...) |

That's a pretty core paper. Where did matter come from (ie nucleosynthesis)? And I doubt anyone in physics could have studied that paper without learning about the mis-attribution of Bethe, for the sake of Gamow's joke.
Yes, I could ask you a direct question but google can make even Junior and Rteacher seem like grad students. Again the riddle would be obvious to anyone who truly majored in physics. (I tested the riddle on my skeptics message board and got an answer 4 hours later. I guess atheist skeptics are simply smarter than you.)
Anyway, I don't know what your true major was but taking Physics 102 and Biochem 102 courses designed as the science elective for Arts majors doesn't mean, as you claimed, you majored in Physics and Biochem (a position you later retreated from... now claiming you majored in "science" whatever that means). Social science (economics, psychology, sociology) is "science" by one definition but unless you're doing it at the PhD/MA level, I don't call 4 year grads in a social science "science grads". |

The doppler effect is to both sound and light waves. Andromeda M31??? (call it either Andromeda galaxy or M31)
