I just bought my first I-pod (the 1gig one) and it rules..
I'm loving the skeptics guide to the universe.

A fascinating idea but at 3 minutes a pop, I don't know if I can get so invested. I'd balk at listening to an 11 minute song however I'm rather quick to turn my nose up at a podcaster who can't do more than 15 minutes.
My ideal is a 40-45 minute podcast. It covers my walk to the subway and my wait until the subway comes (at which time I switch to my PDA and watch downloaded documentaries) and then it covers my walk back.
Penn radio was great for that because it pretty much mapped perfectly. |

I got the complets works of Bill Bryson on audio book from Demonoid. Listening to "A Walk Through the Woods" at the moment. Pretty good.
I also got the entire "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy" radio show from Demonoid. That's a much, much longer story than the TV series or movie. |

Yeah. That's him.
He's not always good. He tends to go on too much about ugly modern buildings and roadbuilding. Like everything should be just the way it was 50 years ago or something. |

yeah lately i'm sick of my music so I've been listening to podcasts also
right now... they're maingly CBC
DNTO
quirks and quarks....
and CBC radio 3 Indie podacast is awesome! highly recomend it.
they just came out with a 'sweatin with the indies' podcast to work out with litened to a bit of it... saving it for the gym later.. |

Here was my story I was about to submit:

Anyway, my GF couldn't decided between two suits. She asked me to make the final choice. Now the one that looked really good on her was the one that required the sales woman to press her boobs into my face. If I told me GF to buy that one, I wouldn't get a repeat. If I told my GF to buy the less flattering one, I'd get another face full of the sales woman's sloops as she put the nice bikini back on the rack.
MATING CALL OF THE WEASEL!
I made the calculation I'd rather see my GF in a nice bikini (she's not poorly equipped up top herself) then get what amounted to a second free lap dance.
That's love. You know? |

| I've posted this in a different thread but one of my current favourites is a Berkeley class found on itunes. It is about US Foreign Policy post 9/11. It is class IAS 180. Just do a Berkeley search and you should find it. Lots of good lectures. |

My problem with The Current is it sounds like classic 10am Toronto-based CBC Radio dull, like it's the great-grandson of Morningside. I used to download it, but discovering This American Life made my standards go sky-high and off it came from my feed list. And the guy on The Current's intro just isn't that funny. But maybe I should give it another shot - I might have been listening in a dry spell.
And Ideas just makes me feel dumb(er).
Seriously, if you're not already, suck down a few episodes of This American Life.
Also good:
-Slate's daily podcasts
-KCRW's "To The Point".
-I'm also really enjoying NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, which as a news quiz is in theory unbearably geeky but their panelists are so frigging hilarious it's a great hour every week. If you can get ahold of the week they had Tom Hanks as a guest, it's a good starter.
Those and NPR's On the Media, BBC World Service's Digital Planet and Documentaries, and CBC's Dispatches keep me constantly topped up in quality drive-to-work podcasts.

Funny how that happened, huh? My 20gb MP3 player actually made me hate my favourite music. It is actually possible to get sick of songs by the many thousands. |

Ah yes, This American Life.. how I miss lazy North Carolina afternoons, high as the trees, patio and windows open for the breeze, cats clamoring about, and Ira Glass twisting a vivid tale.. hhhhhhhh..

Some good podcasts as of late. All of these are available via iTunes. Search for them. Also you can google on them and get the feed.
Quackcast: A very funny doctor of infectious diseases takes on alternative medicine with "evidence-based ridicule". The guy knows his stuff and you will too when you listen. Downside he only manages 1 per month. Also get his Persiflagers Infectious Disease Podcast. 80% of it goes over my head but he does talk a lot about big diseases in the news like Bird Flu, AIDS, and West Nile and provides a lot of insight and straight dope.
Infidel Guy: An interesting grab bag of atheism and skepticism topics.
Skeptiko: Don't let the name fool you. This is a very cringe worthy podcast by a guy who believes in psychic powers etc. He thinks he's a skeptic but I think he's just more skeptical of skeptics. The only shows worth downloading are the interviews with actual skeptics (Shermer etc). To the podcast host's credit, he speaks his piece and he lets the skeptic speak his/hers. It's a good venue to hear the skeptics we know 'n' love when they're not on safe ground. The true believer interviews are horrid.
Paul Harris Show: A Paul is a pal of Penn. Sometimes some interesting topics in the spirit of Penn radio. |
