Do whatever you need or want to do to keep it at the level of humidity you prefer.

I used to turn it on during cuz I lived in a studio apartment and I was afraid that the steam would ruin my laptop.

Sometime I really wonder how people have made it this far in life.

In winter, I would only run it for a bit b/c the extra humidity will eb good for your apartment. In summer, turn it on and leave it on for quite a while since its already so humid.

Door doesn't matter. Turn it on after not during.

Whatever it takes to keep the mold away.

In winter, I don't run it so much. As mentioned, the humidity is needed in winter.

I like how you asked such a stupid, simple question. This isn't an insult, as I have similar questions all the time. It's just that I try to google the answers instead of asking in a forum, since you would get the obvious responses a la hubba bubba.

I didn't know the answer either, by the way. I don't even have a vent. You must have a decent apartment.

in the summer you should check to see if your air-con has that feature that dehumidifies the air.
some do, which is nice.

i usually get the air-con running before hitting the shower and by the time i get out the humdity is just about where i want it. which is key cause i hate the summer-curly-hair!

Get a straight perm. It will keep those danged frizzies away.

Leave it on, then turn it off for that early time, but don't leave it on past the later time (after the earlier time, but a bit before the sort of middle-late time), because electricity costs double after that, but not before the earlier late time, so just do it that way because in the end, it will cost about as much and leave you more time to try and fathom how to open a tube of pringles.

Well, how strong is your fan and how large is your vent? Quite a few I've come across (always the small ceiling-mounted models, not the big-as-a-plate wall- or window-mounted ones) are as weak as a CPU fan, they're next to useless. And you can tell that just by the faint whirr and how it barely draw smoke from a lit cig. I've replaced many with stronger fans.

Also, what's in your bathroom? Nothing made of wood I'm assuming. Korean bathrooms are typically all tile, plastic, porcelain and rustproof metal, so I'd say it's purely a matter of your own personal comfort how long you want to leave it on.

I don't think it's such a "stupid question". A lot of homes in the west don't have vents in the bathrooms either because they have windows in them.

Hey, while in the Korean bathroom: Ever take the cover plate off the drain in the shower? Quite an impressive display of Korean engineering under there of catch basins. I have to say the Korean drain system is far, far better than what we usually have in the states. While you can lose a ring if you drop in the shower in a typical American bathroom, with the Korean one, if it happens to get past the top straining plate, you will find the item you dropped inside in a kind of "catch bowl".

(I've heard the system also keeps rodents and insects from crawling up into apartments too.)

If you've never lifted the plate off the drain before and cleaned the three parts that are inside, . . . you might want to try it some time. It can get pretty putrid in there. Cleaning it regularly is a good idea to get rid of "that bathroom smell that never seems to go away." I clean mine once a month or so.
