looking to buy a mobile home and lot in a community in the US. Saw several nice ones for 16,000 - 20,000-not looking at it as am investment just as a situation to retire in. Some of those communities are quite nice-great landscaping and facilities. The tax is very low and good security in a lot of these places. Can pay cash and not have a 30 year mortage. I know there are disadvantages, but for my situation it seems reasonable. Still researching it and have a few years yet before purchasing anything

A moblile home may cost 16-20k but in most cases that does not include land. Quite a few parks will sell you the home but you still have to pay rent on the lot and the rent is usually as much as a home payment itself.

I know it does not include the land and the many lot rents I have seen were between 195-500

How can I put this delicately...

(a) trailer park people don't do the math that way
and, related
(b) trailer park people want the American dream to own their own home rather than rent, but lack the patience or credit rating in many cases to take on longterm mortgages.

Or so it seems from the reality t.v. shows about the subculture.
