It's weird. I left Korea in 2004 to come home and do a masters degree. I have my masters AND a really great job here in America but I am constantly wondering if I should go back to Korea. What do you think that is? Is it my true heart's desire to return or is it something else. Anyone else have something like this?

Keep in mind it is not because I can't find a good job here, I have a really great one but I still long for Korea.

Farm animals think that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Exactly.

I know what you mean cheesehead. I just left Korea last July but I often consider returning if only for a year or so.
Is it possible to take a leave of absence from your work or something so that you could quench your thirst?

It must be the grass is greener thing...I just didn't expect this feeling of longing to occur 3 years after I left Korea. I also didn't expect to feel it when I started this job. I guess that feeling is always there, somewhere in the back of my mind. The good news is that I am a teacher here in America and get 10 weeks in the summer and my school is willing to pay for Korean language classes so hopefully that will quench the thirst.

But let's turn this question around.

Is Korea itching for you?

The deciding factor for me would be quality of life. That's different for everyone, though.

I had a similar experience. I left Korea in '02 to for a few reasons, including doing either a masters in English or B.Ed. I did the B.Ed and got my teaching qualification and felt like I needed a break. A year here gives you a sense of accomplishment. I have a pretty cushy gig at a decent school and a sweet apartment in a decent neck of the woods. I'm glad I did it, and figure I'll be ready to get back to things at home when the year is up. Of course it's a crapshoot and only you can say what your heart desires...but you're not alone feeling the way you do.
