Hi all
Ok heres the deal, I found a job in Gimhae, so I am in the process of booking a ticket to Busan airport. What I want to know is, am I gonna have to book a return ticket just to get past immigration?
I am currently in Berlin, Germany, and I have Irish citizenship. I am going for a 6 month contract, but afterwards I am not coming back to Germany, so a return is a) useless, and b) about 3 or 4 hundred Euro more expensive than a one way ticket...
Do I have to fork out for it anyway?
Thx |

I've found Korean immigration to be hit or miss on this issue. I've had friends stroll on into the country on a tourist visa, with a one way ticket. Others have been hassled.
If you're really that worried about it, buy a refundable ticket out of Korea (to any destination) then just get it refunded once you're here. |

Edited to provide more information based on whether the OP has a visa or not.
IF the OP is going to enter on a visa waiver stamp (no visa entry):
the problem lies with the airline at check-in time and not the immigration counter here. It is the airline who gets fined and bears the cost of returning the passenger if they do not meet the visa waiver requirements. For this reason they often will not allow you to board the aircraft at the departure point.
The OP can purchase a fully refunable ticket to Japan, skip the hassle at boarding time and cancel/refund the ticket after his arrival here.
This is the easiest way to complete the task.
If the OP has a work (or Korean residencial) visa in his passport prior to boarding the aircraft then there is NO RQUIREMENT for onward or return passage.

I've flown into Korea on a one-way ticket several times now, but each time, the airline checked my visa very carefully before letting me go through. |

I came in with an E2 in my passport and a one way ticket 8 weeks ago. The only hassle I had was that I didnt know the address I was to be living at.

i dont have any visa at all. i will be getting the E2 one by doing a visa run to Fukuoka, but that will be AFTER i get there. So to recap: Irish passport (EU), one way ticket, no visa... hmm doesnt sound promising. |

Get a refundable outward ticket...
A good solution for you might be to try to buy the ferry ticket for fukuoka before you get here. Just make it a date a couple of weeks after you get here and change the date(or get a refund) after you arrive....
I am not sure how you can do this in germany though..no harm going to a travel agency and trying....
You would need documentation to show you had the ticket

Immigration have nothing to do with it...it is up to the airlines before you board to check whether you have an onward ticket or not. |
