Hey there, deciding for my first job. I have an option, Centum City in Haeundae gu Busan or Ilsan in Gyeonggi do.

I hear Ilsan is new and nice and modern, Centum appears to be a new growing area of Haeundae with a promising future, in a good location within Busan. Being near the beach is a bonus.

Where would you go? Why?
Any pros and cons for each place?

Thanks

Both are in Korea. Thus both are sort of slummy in comparison to Shaunessy or Kimberley or even Downtown Eastside.

Really, I shite thee not.

The surf is polluted and chilly year-round in Busan City; Ilsan-gu, Goyang City is a sterile dump for the most part but it is noticeably better than nearly every other place in the R.O.K.

If you value cold and polluted waves, then Busan is the place for you; if you want newer buildings about to fall down yet still very expensive, then Ilsan-gu is the place in which you'd want to reside, etc..

Sorry, not familiar with those places. Different part of the world for me. But I get what you are saying. Thanks.

Initially I thought Ilsan would be great, but I am starting to like the idea of being able to escape to the coast at will with ease.

I never heard of Centum city before. I thought it would have been new as a search (which yielded little) gave me the impression that there are massive building plans for that area.

Any other thoughts from anyone?

Did I respond to you somewhere else? I think so. Go for Centum city. Its in a great location. Lots of shopping around, close to areas wit bars and restaurants. WHy you would choose Ilsan, I don't know. How are the job offers for both though? Thats more important.

I've lived in ilsan for 6 months and it's really nice. lots to do, and not as busy or crazy as seoul, yet still very close. lots of new buildings, nice apartments etc. tons of bars, and lafesta is great for shopping and drinking/eating....quite a few foreigners in the area....so on second thought, go to Busan, we don't, ew don't want anymore waygooks heres...jk. I'd say Ilsan...but i've never been to busan so i'm biased.

Ilsan is cool.

Lived in Daewha Dong for 6 motnhs.

Clean, great facillities. Great shopping, good for cinema, some decent froiegner bars at La Festa if you don't wan to go into Seoul. Only 45 mins from Hongdae / Shinchon by bus....

People there seem really friendly and sophisitcated without the Seoul indefference and pushiness...

Good restaurants abound.

Jeongbalsan is a nice little mountain... Lake park, although it's artificial it's pretty damn lovely place to go to walk or just relax.

It's gorgeous in Spring too, yellow and purple flowers everywhere etc...

Preffered it to Seoul and it's near enough to Seoul anyway... Not very near the beach though.

I'll put my neck out and describe it as living in Richmond on Thames
(Ilsan) as compared to Central London (Seoul).

Yes, I had a specific thread on Centum, but yours was the only response. The internet has very little to say about Centum City. That, combined with indecision prompted this thread.

The conditions for work are nearly the same, except Ilsan is about 100,000 more, but lifestyle is more the issue for me. What to do in my spare time, community, playing sports. . . .

As both jobs are both in the same types of school age group, I guess work issues and students are really more about the luck of the draw.

I would go with Ilsan. For everyday living everything is there and its a satelite city of Seoul (read: a neighborhood) where central Seoul is only a stone-throw away (20-30 minutes which equates to nothing in Seoul).

Also Seoul is the center of Korea and everything is there in and around Seoul.

I think I mentioned Seoul too many times in this post. Anyway, I think you will not regret coming there and there are many things to do when you are in that area. Maybe some other area is better if you are into doing something specific, but that other area may be limited in a way that you can only do that specific thing.
