If you think St. Valentine's Day is a scam by the chocolate & flower companies to get you to spend money, Korea and Japan do one better.

They fix it so that women give presents to men first on St. Valentine's Day.
That way, it's almost guarantees that most men will outspend the women when White Day comes and they have to buy presents for women.

Smart guys! Very smart. Laughing

Did you give yesterday?

I was drinking yesterday afternoon with my Korean coworkers, and we discovered I was the only one who had bothered to do anything for White Day. It was hard saying "In my country, we don't celebrate White Day."

Best new one is 11/8, Bra Day. My coworkers didn't even know about that one.

But on black day, it just means that people with no lover eat 짜장면 and hate all people with lovers. No gift giving.

One of my students wrote up a list of those sort of special gift giving days for every month of the year. There is now apparently a "Green Day" Laughing I don't think that most people pay any attention of them though...

Thanks for the article Seoulsucker! It's excellent. In fact, I am going to print a copy for myself.

The number of superficial holidays is ridiculous in this country. Who sits around and makes up this nonsense? Incredible. I hope they keep making more because eventually (hopefully) there will be a rebellion against them someday.

LOL

i managed to pass on the excess candy I got from the popular students(?) to the other ones, thus not actually buying anything. A girl had a packet of pringles which was sweet, as i hadn't eaten lunch.
