Hi,
I know there have been a few posts on this, but I just have a question that maybe someone can answer for me better than the Canadian Embassy. My fiance who is Korean and I are getting married in Vancouver on Sept 21st. I have applied to go back to school at UBC in Sept, and I know that we can't apply for residency until we are married. We have made the decison that he will stay here to work until the right goes through. The Canadian Embassy won't really give us a clear answer. They said 29 days to 1 year to process. If its a few months I can handle it, I will travel back to see him. But one year...what the heck kind of time frame is that? He wants to go to school at UBC in Sept 08, which means he needs to apply by Feb 2008. Do you think this is possible?
Does anyone have any experience with this? Please help me! I really dont want to just have a civil marriage here in Korea to make the time frame less.

It will take 30-45 days to process the Canadian citizens sponsorship application.

It will then take 90-360 days to process the immigration application of the non-canadian spouse.

If the two of you are in Canada for the wedding and you do NOT overstay your tourist stamp (make sure you apply for the necessary extensions) you can apply for the landed status from within Canada.

The processing time is longer (up to 2 years) but after the initial approval in principal you will be able to get a work permit while you await your imm1000 card and landed status.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canadian_immigration/ is a great resourse for Canadians and their spouses who are seeking information and assistance on family class immigration.
