I had a quick question for everyone out there. This may sound naive and even a bit stupid but I have recently agreed to help tutor my girlfriends nephew and his friend. I'm not getting paid and more or less I'm doing it as a favor to her and her parents. I always here these paranoid stories from people saying that I should be careful about even tutoring as it could be seen as privates. I will be doing it at her sisters apartment and it's not like I'll be doing it in the open like a coffee shop or library. I have been in Korea for almost a year now and have had many oppurtunites to do privates but have turned them down mainly because most of them have seemed dodgy as hell. Most of the time they were strangers off the street or somebody that new somebody needed a tutor. Mainly I didn't want to get caught and deported as I really like it here. Like I said before I'm not getting paid except for maybe dinner from her parents. Should I worry or am I just being paranoid. Thanks for advice any of you can give. |

| Doing it for free? Learn some Korean from the kid and call it a cultural exchange - if anybody eventually discovers the situation and actually cares. |

You can't volunteer your free time in this country. So you probably can't teach your GF's relatives.
Screw immigration. Do it anyways. |

You can volunteer if you go through the right procedure, but usually this involves an organization, not someone's family. |
