Anti-police rallies turn ugly in Montreal, Vancouver
Fri Mar 16, 4:21 AM
Anti-police rallies in Montreal and Vancouver turned violent Thursday as demonstrators clashed with police, leading to several arrests.
Montreal police arrested 15 people late Thursday after the annual demonstration to protest police brutality.
The rally started out peacefully, with about 500 people marching from the city's Cote des Neiges district.
Police say it turned violent later in the evening when a smaller group headed to the city's east end and vandalized stores and restaurants.
The people arrested face a range of charges from unlawful assembly and arson to armed assault on a police officer.
[Probably some anarchist types infiltrated the protest.] |

For the record, it's a fence they're building on the Mexican border, and that is to help control illegal immigration, which is not a problem on the Canada U.S. border. But I did hear the mayor of Loredo say that they should build a fence along the Canadian border because that's where the terrorist came from.
No deaths, just a few clashes, nothing compared to those riot in Baltimore last year. |

| I watched bowling for columbine and I thought that Canadians didn't even lock their doors.(i'm from the states and we've never locked our doors)..I think that if you are going to fight the police you should lock your door before leaving the house |

I've lived in the Cotes des Neiges area in Montreal...Some burglars there stole the locks on doors, and nothing else. |

In small town Alberta we don't lock our doors, but that might be cause we tend to have a small militia worth of long-arms in the house. When I lived in Montreal, Toronto and Edmonton, damn right, I locked my doors.
Anyhow this 'riot' was quite small. No big deal. Nothing compared to the anti-muslim riots in Northern Europe this week... |

A little context would be nice. The IWD rally in Montreal ended with the cops trying to arrest Jaggi and ended up hitting people.

No surprise that a week later tempers would still be high. |

Ahh, Jaggi Singh. I've met him a few times.
Good times. I'm glad the blowhard had a tough week. It quite literally couldn't happen to a more appropriate person.

Jaggi Singh is not a violent person. And sometimes the cops overreact and beat people who have nothing to do with mayham. Montreal is generally a very safe city. I never felt insecure walking around Montreal even in parts of NDG in the bad areas of it. I've lived in the St. Hubert Street area, downtown, NDG, and I didn't find any problems with anyone.
Of course, there is crime there, but it is not as bad as some parts of Toronto or this notorious area of Halifax. By the way, why is that part of Halifax so bad? |

Wait you consider parts of NDG the bad area? |

I lived in the McGill Ghetto. St. Pines Ouest (sp?). Good times. I felt quite safe, except on SJB Day, when my car got near smashed up.
Montreal is the most livable city in North America. The mass transport works well enough, despite being really overpriced. Schwartz is my favorite resturant in Canada, and I have a smoked meat sandwich as my desktop background. If the ADQ are able to shake things up, it might become economically viable to live there.
Ahhhhhhhh...

Some parts of NDG look very run down when you go past Loyola Campus. It doesn't look dangerous to me. I didn't feel threatened, but some parts look to be in bad shape. Everyone knows that. However, some parts of NDG look pretty good. |

What real connection is there between this incident & what you're proposing? You realize you're really stretching things here. What does your point have to do with a foreign country's domestic unrest? Frankly i fail to see what logic you're presumably employing. Is there any?
This being said, i will say good fences do indeed makes for good neighbours.
Any bets on how many mercenary "anarchist" agent provocateurs were involved in working to stir things up?
