I was looking through whypaymore.co.kr for the cheapest price to Australia and its via JAL (around 600,000 won return). However my friend told me that the TAX that I gotta pay is over 300,000 won. Could that be right???

I paid $2000 Au from Brisbane to Incheon to Brisbane in May last year, including all taxes. That's about 1.45 million won, so yes, I think the JAL flight would be pretax.

Also paid 677k won return Seoul<> Bkk in Dec 06 / Jan 07 with Top Travel.

that price is certainly pre-tax...

I think tax will be about 100 to 150 000 extra....

The most i have ever paid for tax and fuel surcharge(just a fancy name for ripping us more money - just put the price in the frigging ticket) is 130 000 and that was a return ticket from busan - brisbane- Busan on JAL

The school paid, & the ticket was purchased on short notice (under 2 weeks) through a Flight Discount Centre office. If I last out until May, I get reimbursed the other $1000 Au.

Oh & as I purchased the ticket in Australia, I had to pay a whole raft of Aust Govt taxes. East Timor Tax, Fuel tax, airport tax, departure tax, etc etc. Most of these taxes don't apply in Korea, so it should be a lot cheaper buying it here.

You are right....looks like JAL has increased taxes and fuel chrages to near 300,000 for a return ticket.

So a ticket for 600,000 ( as advertised ) is about 900,000.

a little off topic, but JAL is THE most anal airline in the world. If your luggage is 500grams over the limit, then enjoy the festivities which follow...

I was 8 kilos overweight with JAL a couple of years ago..

Flew the Brisbane - Tokyo leg: no problems...stayed at Narita that night..

Tokyo - busan leg:
Check-in:You are 8 kilos overwieght, you must pay for every kilo over 20...
Me: I don't have any money or a credit card...
Check-in: You can't board then....
Me: Well, I'll be standing here until you change your mind as the first leg nobody had a problem...
Check-in: This time Ok, next time...NO!!
Me: Sounds good...
