I've read that although the national insurance is mandatory, a lot of hagwons don't enroll their employees. What about universities?
Thx .... mep
(I did a search with "universities" and "national insurance" but didn't find the answer to my Q in the results) |

If you mean health insurance, yes.
If you mean national pension...no, but they must provide a pension plan. Some universities are private, and therefore have a private pension plan that is "similar" to the national pension plan. Although I am not sure how similar it is. The thing about a private university is that even though you will pay into a private pension, many of them do not have to give you severance for some reason. So the private pension acts as their extra month's severance as well is the reason they give.

Thanks. Yeah, I meant mainly the health insurance. So even the private uni's are pretty good about the health insurance, not like the hagwons?
Thx .... Mep |

Thanks a lot. BTW, I'm in China now and thinking of coming to Korea for the next schoolyear. But I'm wondering about how I'll be able to/have to go about applying to uni's there. My uni job here doesn't end until July 17, so I wouldn't get there until then. I've read in some posts that you have to interview at uni's there in person to get a job. But I remember in the summer of '05 when I was back in the States, I got an offer from a uni through the net. What's the word on that? I should probably mention my qualifications incase they would play a role -- I have a PhD, but it's in Eng. lit., not TESOL or linguistics. I also have a CELTA and tons of experience. Thanks a lot ... mep |
