Ok, lots of stories of terrible hagwons. What would be an ideal hagwon? If you owned or managed a hagwon yourself, how you run the place?

-follow the contract
-follow Korean law
-treat foreign teachers like human beings

Sound like strange ideas in Korea.

At my (new) job I'm actually pretty happy. Its only been 3 months, but I love having mornings off, leaving ealry a couple of days a week, the manager listens to me about my classes and head office takes the teacher's recommendations seriously (I've seen several major adjustments in my short time there based on these suggestions).

I'm satisfied with my apartment and pay. The other teachers are cool. I'm not really sure what 'ideal' means, though. Sitting on my ass on a beach in Thailand collecting obscene cheques may be ideal. But this is pretty good for now.

I consider doing whatever I like in the evening, waking up without an alarm, growing personally and professionally, being financially secure and actually looking forward to seeing my students as 'ideal'. I've worked some awful jobs for the money. Dreading, actually DREADING, going to work and having a physical and/or mental reaction to this dread is not ideal.

Perception is everything, right?
