I think TWG did a great job of superhero-ing my husband (a commissioned birthday present), who's been a comic collector for years.

But an upgrade is needed, sweetie is now Major Awesome. |
Why thanks. It was my pleasure. At the time I was cursing, but the image forced me to try and step outside of my usual comfort zone.
And pass on my congrats.
Spiegelman....
I find Maus to be pretty much his only readable work. Generally speaking, I find he doesn't communicate his ideas very well. Like a drunk that constantly slurs his words or forgets where he was going with his train of thought. He's just not clear.
I much prefer Love and Rockets for my "alt-Comix"

| Yes, Skinhead. It is generally considered a grown-up's comic. |

Did you see the famous issue where Batman outs himself?
No wait, he's just thinking, so nobody heard it. I won't tell. Promise. |

I presume you all are familiar with Superdickery?

My favorite, although it doesn't technically have anything to do with superheroes.

I'll have you know I posted that one on Dave's before, maybe even twice. nya nya! Damn, I rock.
Alright, I'll see your Archie-beats-off-three-dudes and raise you a Lois-Lane-the-Sore-Assed-Sex-Freak.
And here's proof that Superman is actually Korean.

I actually did my thesis on graphic novels and education!

In The Amazing Spiderman issue # 36, they just would never expect anything like that to happen. They even depicted the villians (magneto, Kingpin, and Dr. Doom) surprised at the actions of 9/11. Although, I think they did worse.. But yeah anyways some historic events can't be averted by super heroes. Look at WW2. Captain America was fighting the Red Skull instead of throwing his shield at Hitler.
But back to the topic at hand: the whole amputee thing is to capture the readers imagination within the gutter. Here's what Mcloud says in Reinventing Comics, "The limbo of the gutter, human imagination takes two separate images and transforms them into a single idea"
Now my suggestions for good graphic novel reading:
The Dark Knight Returns
Barefoot Gen (only read vol 1)
Jar of Fools |

That's because he didn't have to. Catman was on the job!! What, you didn't hear that Catman strangled Hitler?
Anyway, Captain America captured Hitler, too, in the very second issue.

I think I take heroes way too seriously to participate in this thread.
I absolutely refuse to bump this... |
