When applying for a part-time job, I've had several recruiters requiring me to give them my passport ID number...why do they need this, so they have me by the balls? This does not make sense to me...please clarify...thanx |

If your part time job is giving you an E2 then the school would need your passport info to file for you.
If you are working part time without an E2 or permission from a current employer....well that's illegal and there is no need what so ever to give any information like that out.
As a rule, I would suggest under no circumstances give the passport # out. The only ones who actually need it are those at the immigration office; if in Korea you should be there when your boss applies for your E2.
Your boss does not need a copy of your passport either, why give this stuff out? Its none of their business. |

This guy wouldn't let up about it, he kept pestering me for my passport number. I'm not getting an e-2 but he wants to photo copy my passport...when I wouldn't do it, he showed me copies of other passports. It seemed REALLY sketchy...almost on the point of thinking he's immigration. The company's name is IBM ans the man's name is Charles Kim. Anyone know anything...? The office is in Coex mall. |

Kid, If you look at most job openings they ask for a copy of your passport information page along with the resume etc.
Not saying it's right, but it seems a requirement, and I'm pretty sure they're going nowhere on it.

Your passport copy is to show that you do have a valid passport and to show nationality. You should black out the number though....that's essential when forging; yeah its a bit paranoid....I value privacy so I am a bit biased.
Your photo is to guage your looks
Immigration needs your passport to stamp, in Korea or at the embassy back home. Neither your boss nor your recruiter need that number or a copy however.
To test out how other people are hesitant to give their passport info...ask your recruiter or director for a copy of their passport when you are asked for yours! |
