what's with all the sarcasm and hostility on this forum?
i haven't even been around for that long and already i am finding myself viciously retorting to some ppl's posts to reciprocate the hostility and negativity, and i also see some real seasoned keyboard warriors here.
so what's the problem |

Nawww... I've met some people in person who would fit right in on this board, on or off line. For the OP, I really don't know. I just ignore them nowadays, no more being pulled into immature little battles. |

A lot of people come here to kill time, have a bit of a laugh, stir the pot a bit, nothing wrong with that. |

Personal attacks? What I like to call e-courage.
The general bitter stuff? This board, while full of useful, entertaining, and informative schwag is also one of the only avenues people have to vent the daily frustrations of life in Korea.
Half the time I post stuff here I don't really expect anyone to read it, or even care if they do. It's just kind of therapeutic at times to get stuff off my chest that would normally bring people around me that I truly care about down with it. Here it's a bit filtered, not quite as caustic or corrosive to my personal life.
Not positive, but I'd bet that a lot of people on here feel the same way. We generally lead pretty productive, positive lives in Korea, but every once in a while you just have to let out a biga$$ digital scream and shake your fists at the Korean heavens for some of the small things that just pile up on you. |

I don't find it all that negative at all. I know, have known, or have met over 25 Dave's members in real life and I can't think of one I disliked. I think that a lot of people mistake taking the piss for being pissed off, and others just get too easily offended by a small number of determined pricks. For the past two years I've been on this board more than just about anyone and I can only think of three or four posters I'd want to stay clear away from. |

I'm pleasant. Damn it! I saw Drum Eatenton at the Piggly Wiggly this morning, and I smiled at the son of a bitch 'fore I could help myself. |

FY~ there are 2 types of people on this board- The Korea bashers and the Korea apologists, they've been battling for years.
The best way to keep your sanity while cruising this forum is not to take each and every statement seriously or take it for face-value (0 won's worth) and shift through the crap to find what is factual, useful and informative.
There many types of posters here too;
Real Reality posts alot of articles for people to talk about, amuse themselves with, or criticize.
There are alot of seasoned ESL vets here who come and in their bouts of sanity, can give some really good advice about stuff.
Before the great crisis that began in 2005, the apologists outnumbered the bashers 3:1, for every post that bashed Korea, there were about 3 or 4 posters that would jump to Korea's rescue. But since then, yeah the vibe has gotten worse.
I don't live in Korea for now, but I miss it everyday and I know that I will appreciate it more when I get back there, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna stand by and get walked on, I'll call it as I see when it happens... |

Would respectfully suggest that you answered your own post.
Hostility begets hostility.
I also agree with many of the other posters regarding general asshattery, e-courage, etc... |

I think because there are, relatively speaking, many posters on the Korean forum, you are bound to get a percentage of people who use it to vent their frustrations and attack other posters.
While, hopefully most people use it as a source of information/entertainment there are some people working in Korea who have no social skills and generally don't interact well with other people. I think these people are in the minority but they tend to post often.
Compared with the other Dave's forums, the Korean one is a world of its own. The middle east forums tend to be particularly grumpy - one poor newbie posted on the UAE forum asking what sort of culture shock they might be exposed to and they got soundly told off for inviting racist and ethnocentric comments and wasting people's time when the board was for exchanging job information!
Anyway why reply to people who post personal attacks? Don't give them the satisfaction. |

A lot of people hate it here. They come here and rant and rave. People usually talk about the shltty and don't talk about good stuff.
If I said I went to a restaurant last night. Got some soup and ordered a pepsi. They didn't have one so they gave me an orange pop instead...for free. That's boring.
If I said "went to the restaurant...bitch didn't bring me chopsticks and a spoon. Then the dumb biaTCH forgot my rice then when I wanted a pepsi, they didn't have any cola! What kind of place doesn't have a fuking Cola? Do I look yellow? Do I look like I want a cider? Stupid cider drinking racist SOBs! I fuking ahte them and their country.
Both sotries are the same. I bet you hear #2 more than #1.
Plus it's usually the Americans bitching and complaining |

Pak yu man, that's a great summary of the human condition. The right thing to do is to ignore inflammatory remarks, but we don't always want what's right...
e-courage. That's wicked - I hadn't heard that phrase before.
Op, I feel for you - the attacks on your avatar were a new height in classlessness on any forum I've been part of. It's encouraging to see the mods taking an active roll, culling the work of some of the more blatant self-righteous ranting hate mongers. |

A lot of people take themselves too seriously.. you make a sarcastic comment or challenge their opinion and they get all pissy.
Plus, let me be the first to say it: Welcome to the Internet. |
