Does anyone know where to buy a smoker and wood chips? The famous Cameron stovetop smoker is made in Korea, but I'm guessing they're made for export only.
If I knew a place where I could get a good selection of chips, I'd probably try to make my own smoker . . . |

| BTW, on the site listed above, the expensive one (15,000 won) is for use in food, while the cheap one is a skin remedy. My father-in-law uses smoke extract for his feet--although I'm not exactly sure what it is supposed to do.. |

The charcoal is supposed to help remove poison from the body. That's my guess.
When I first stayed in Korea, I did homestay. The father there was INSANE about charcoal. He was an architect, and filled the walls with charcoal, if you can believe it. He ate these honey-coated charcoal beads every night with soju (and gave me beads to eat, too). He put that liquid smoke in his water. He put his razor blade on a lump of charcoal at night too -- swearing it helped keep his blade sharp. He took us out for dinner, and was trying to sell charcoal to the Galbi store we went to, much to the family's embarrassment.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if he slept with a charcoal rod strapped to his ding-dong every night. |

no need to buy a smoker:
get a big cardboard box, poke a few holes, get those portable butane cooking stoves, add the woodchips into some old used saucepan and voila your very own low budget smoker.
i dont recommend doin this in your apt of course, do it on the roof, just secure the box etc, use common sense! |
