If my calculations are roughly correct, with 18 June, 2005, being the last day I ever taught hogwan, up until today I went one year and nine months without making a single student cry (as a result of punishment - not counting graduations, informing of bad news, etc.). Can anyone who doesn't teach adults top that?

I teach kindergarten- nobody cried today, so my record is... one day.

No seriously, maybe 2 or 3 days. When I first started it was more like 2 or 3 hours, if I was lucky.

Way to go, me!!

I've been teaching 5-13 year olds for 9 months and I can only remember one of my students crying because of me (I dropped a 6 year old while swinging her around during play time). Sure they've complained a bit and pouted. I've had some tears in the class other times, but that was because of in-class fighting or arguments among the students.

Today is the first time in 3.5 year that I had a kid cry in class. We where doing a reading exercise and when it came to her turn she started crying.
She was having trouble learning the words and was afraid that the other kids would make fun of her.
So my co-teacher took her outside and helped her with the words. Then she came back into class and kick a$$.

I think the title of the post implies that I do not WANT my students to cry...which is not always the case. I make students inadvertently cry once or twice a year -- the last time was about 4 months ago.... I intentionally make students cry when they deserve a "right-talking-to!" -- usually when I see kids bullying each other or picking on each other -- rough-housing at the top of the stairwell, doing WWE wrestling moves in the hall -- that kind of stuff gets nipped in the bud, I tell ya, Andy! Bud-nipped!

So, either "about 4 months ago," or "as long as I can."

This post suxs. The question should be, "How fast can you make a student cry?" BTW my director stole my stick from me, now it's all hand to hand combat in my classrooms. Laughing

It has been 15 months for me and yesterday I had a new student and he burst into tears. Anyways, what is the best way to deal with a bawling student? Do you get him/her to go to the bathroom and refresh or speak to him/her privately?

So yesterday was the first time in ages for three of us? That seems a bit suspicious. Perhaps it's a student Internet plot or something.

Only ever made one student cry, I took away his huge collection of (laminated!) Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

What's the best way to make them cry????
