My modem keeps resetting.

I just had the net installed today.

Is it possible that the internet company is sending a reset signal to me to slow down my downloading or is it likely to be a faulty cable modem?

More likely a loose power connection either at the wall, stepdown transformer (brick on the line from the modem to the wall power outlet) or the back of the modem.

If all the connections are tight and there is no wiggle where the adapter goes into the modem then you probably have a bum modem.

I had this problem my first few months in Korea. My modem would be fine for a day, maybe a week at most, then it would just quit. I noticed that it would only allow me to connect between the hours of 3 and 5am. We had a tech guy out at my apartment at least a half-dozen times. They first tried to say "Macintoshie" and shake their heads no, then they tried swapping out the modem, the power cord, the internet line, and still nothing. I knew it wasn't "Macintoshie" because I can plug it in fresh to any internet and it works just fine. I've never had to set up anything. Eventually I made one sit until he listened to me and I had my boss on the phone to translate what I was trying to tell him, and he finally figured out the problem and did whatever it was he did. After that it was smooth sailing.

In a nut-shell, have your boss send out a tech and, for the sake of convenience, I hope your not using a Mac. I'd never switch to a PC, but in Korea, using them can be problematic. Mostly because anything the Korean's don't know how to do just isn't possible as far as their concerned.

Not 100% sure of the problem something to do with the actual cable. I think either my neighbour is stealing cable or that he has cut into my cable when his was originally installed.

Ongoing but hopefully going to be fixed.

Any sort of large transfer of data is resetting the modem.
