How many of us are here. How many teachers in Korea use this site? How many aspiring teachers use this site? Is it true that worknplay site is used more than Daves like I hear?

25,000 aspiring teachers and 1000 on assignment in Korea????? I don't even seem to know if my co-teachers use ESL sites.

Curious....

For a few weeks take a look at the "Who is on line" section at the bottom of each web page. That should give you a basic idea.

There's about 20 people on this site, though over 10,000 people are teaching and working in Korea, not counting soldiers. The 20 of us on here have many aliases, socks and trolls, and if you are going to be regular, please send $50 US to:

Dave Sperling

Well, you can make a post at just about any time of day and within 1 minute it will have 10 views, regardless of who shows up on the 'who's online' list. btw, my name never shows up on that list.

Where did you come up with the 25,000 and 1,000 figures? Your 1000 is off by about 8000-9000 and that's excluding teachers eligible to work on F2, F4, and F5 visas and all the ones who teach illegally on SOFA or tourist visas.

As for WnP and Daves job board comparisons, when Dave was using thread counters on his ads, each ad would range between 750-1200 views. WnP was getting 50-100 views. Daves job board is still getting all-time highs of 500-700 paid ads a month. WnP charges zero. 50% of the ads on Daves are from recruiters who spend all day trying to maximum ROI on the ads they post across the internet. If WnP, a free site, had more teacher traffic than Daves, you'd see a distinct drop in Daves ad volume. Your speculating sources must have slept through Economics 101.

Are you out of your mind? I just went to worknplay forums and a lot of the forum use is someone posting a topic and no one replying. If that is in sense used more than I don't know what the world has come to.

I've been a member of this site for some time now. I'm still in school edging my way to a BA in History. I stumbled across this site when the notion of teaching in Korea crossed my mind many moons ago. With that said, I use this site primarily to get an overall feeling of what I can expect when I finally make my way across the pond even if it's a strength in more ways than one.

I'm not sure I would classify myself as an aspiring teacher, though with every passing semester the thought of teaching does seem to be rather exciting and scary.

OK, I am off on my figures. There must be more than 1000 ESL teachers in Korea, perhaps they are mostly in Seoul city, minus one thousand or so dispersed through out areas outside of Seoul. I'm in Changwon and know only 5 teachers, my co-teachers that is. I heard there are 1000 ESL teachers in Changwon from someone last night at IP's foreigner bar, but I just find it hard to believe since I do not see them anywhere. (I must be seeing them at foreigner bars, but not talking with them.) The foreigners that I meet and talk to at foriegner bars usually are engineers, military, and business professionals, not other teachers. Heck, I have talked with, in English, with more Koreans, than foriegners and yet a very few Koreans outside the big cities speak English. There must be a huge difference in living in a big city vs outside the big city when it comes to your local expat community. When going to Korea, I expected to get to know many other people with the same career and travel interests as I have, but instead, is a very lonely journey. Perhaps this is why it's called, "Lonely Planet". lol.

When I went to Busan today, in terms of foreigners, it was military men with high and tight haircuts that I saw walking all over the place buying souveneers. Police were out in full force in the foreigner district in mobs carrying night sticks; pretty tense enviroment to say the least. Funny thing how Korea really is. Just what this is, is always a new suprise with each step you take. peculiar places and people abound...
