Is that word over used in the ESL workplace? I'm talking about foreigners and Koreans.

Today, i heard it at least 3 times, not necessarily directed at me... I was only at work for 4 hours, and in class for 3 of those hours.
I caught myself the other day, blurting it out like it was a reflex. I said it for some reason which i can't even remember. The only thing that i remember was immediately noticing there was really no reason for saying it. I think it was for attempting to walk in a coworkers path. Step and hesitation. I put on the brakes before i even got going... "sorry".

On the other hand, there was that time a korean teacher was late for class and ran by me, smacking my knee with her tape player. She just grunted as if annoyed that my knee was in the way, adding precious nanoseconds to her journey.

I don't know but our students say it way too much. If they get an answer wrong, they say sorry. It cracks me up.. but a lot of times they say 소리 instead of sorry, so like a broken record I always respond that 소리 means sound so they have to say it again sans the lazy pronunciation.

It's worse in Japan. You hear "sumimasen" every 5 minutes.
