Hi there, I am supposed to be starting work soon and I don't have my Canadian passport (yes I am Canadian, in Canada).
I read on the website if you have a plane ticket you can pay an extra amount of money to get your passport in two weeks. Does anyone know if this is true? I tried to call there but they are always busy and I get a "Please call back later" message... tried many times.
If anyone knows anything, please give me whatever information you know.
Thanks in advance.

If you mail it in you can get it in 2-3 weeks. If you go to the passport office the wait can be longer (not including the time needed at the passport office).

The delays are caused by the large numbers of people who are rushing to get a passport for US travel who did NOT get it done before the deadline.

Really? On the passport website it says specific things for urgent cases. I'm just wondering, I would rather go to the office and do it if I can because I will be purchasing my plane ticket soon. Thanks.. if anyone has anymore experience with this your information is greatly appreciated.

I think it can depend on who you deal with. Last year year I was in Hong Kong and my engagement was broken off. My parents who were concerned about me went to Halifax to get a rush job on getting passports and the person who they were dealing with there let them know what to do. They ended up not coming over since I was fine, but if they needed to they would have been able to get their passport within a week (if my memory serves me correctly)

It might be worth it to talk to face to face with someone.

Canadian passport offices are going through an extraordinary time right now. With the new regulation requiring passports to travel to or through the States, immigration offices have been swamped with applications.

When I was in Victoria last month people were lining up outside the office from 2 or 3am. Lineups a block long. Long processing times once they did get to apply. People having to give up vacation travel, even with tickets.

I dont know how they're handling expedited passports at this time but I'd be surprised if they arent affected too.

Best luck.

Can someone suggest a good story to tell them hahaha
It's really important for me to go to Korea... personal things.
I just really hope I can get it in time.
Right now I have about 3 and a half weeks.

And you wasted a couple of those precious days by not mailing your application off last Wednesday.

Get it in the mail or get down to the passport office ASAP. You can travel as soon as you get it back.

The longer you wait, the longer it will take. It won't get processed while you are waiting for us to tell you what you don't want to hear.

Better hope your plane ticket allows changes with small or no penalties

and

I wasn't trying to be funny.

You are short on time and praying that you won't get caught in the frenzy at the passport office? Time's a wasting..... but I won't say I told you so later.

At any rate, why would you wait to get your plane ticket before sending everything to get your passport? It's the other way around!
Your plane ticket is totally useless without your passport.

The fastest way you could get your passport is by going directly to one of the passport offices in your city. With proof (ie. plane ticket), they can issue a passport within 48 hours, or 2-4 days (but you would have to pick it up). I forget what the fee is, but I know it's possible.

I was actually supposed to travel earlier on, and needed my passport within 12 days. I had to pay addition $10 for that, and had to go in and pick it up. It was ready in 10 business days..

so to answer your question it's very possible and probable for you to obtain it within 4 days (it would be cheaper than paying extra for 48 hour one)...

but where in Canada are you? Avoid going to a downtown office. Pick a suburb, and go there between 10-11am, before and after that you'd be waiting for about 2 hours or so...

I live in Toronto, actually North York and I just hope I can get it in time.
Did you have to give a good reason or did they just accept it?

-chocolacharat- you should be able to get it in time. Go to the passport location in Mississauga (Burhampthorpe and Cawthra, there is a big plaza on the north side of Burhampthorpe, the passport entrance is at the back of the plaza). I went on a Monday, and it wasn't too bad. Just tell them that you are going to be getting a Visa to work abroad and you need to have your passport within 12 days...they'll tell you then that you can pick it up after 10 business days, and it's $10 extra...
