Can anyone recommend some good brands of external hard drive available in Korea? I'm looking for a 500 GB USB hard drive. |

500Gb you are going to have to get a 3.5
You might as well get one which has a LAN port on it as well to make the transfers quicker. |

I'm looking for an external hard drive so size doesn't matter. I'm pleased they have Western Digital here. Does anyone know if external hard-drives have variable voltage inputs like laptops? |

You get external drives that fit in your pocket. 2.5 notebook drives or you get big powered ones as well. |

I don't think there are any 500 GB notebook drives but I only really wanted to know what brands they have here and what sort of voltages they accept. I'm only looking for a powered model. |

they have seagate, western digital, hitachi, and samsung. don't get a samsung. i recommend seagate, as i have found them to be the most reliable and have 5 year warranties. western digitals have 3 year warranties, and i believe samsungs have one year warranties. i have no idea about hitachis. all 3.5 hard drives will be 12 volts (not that you have to worry about it - all 3.5 inch hard drive cases will supply the hard drive with 12 volts).
edit: the warranties mentioned here are manufacturers' warranties

If your harddrive broke down after 2 years would you go back to Yongsan to get a new one? I've never really rated warranty when buying stuff in Korea.. |

no, silly, you would ship it back to the manufacturer and they would ship you a new one. (or you can get them to ship it to you first, but you have to provide credit card information as collateral) - at least that's how it works with WD and seagate |

Hmmm..I always thought your first recourse to getting a refund/repair was with the seller?
EDIT: I remember now a friend of mine had a problem with a CANON camera and was able to get a repair under warranty in Korea even though he bought it in America. I guess it pays to keep the receipts
BONUS EDIT (for ESLCAFE Gold members only):
If you had to ship them your external hardrive (500GB or whatever) what would you do with all the dodgy content? Don't tell me you have a 500GB with no dodgy content... |

I bought a 500Gb in a housing a few weeks ago from Technomart. Powerblock is rated 110-270V, it came with the housing. The drive is a Seagate.
I use it with my laptop.
It does have a LAN cable but I just use the USB port. It works fine.

Thanks mnhnhyouh, that was exactly the info I was looking. Thanks to everyone else too.
I wonder if they have Western Digital My Book 1 TB HD in Yongsan, now that would be something. |

I asked the same question about two weeks ago, and didn't receive one comment recommenting a drive brand as per the request.
Does you ID name have to rhyme with a 'raccoon' to get any respect around here.
