They seem to be making a movie based on Milton's Paradise Lost. Lucifer and the other fallen angels go all Rambo on the fancy pants arch angels. Could be cool.
The director, Scott Derrickson, seems to direct crap:

Fundamentalists shouldn't complain. Many fundies get their ideology from stories like Paradise Lost and Dante's Inferno. Read the Left Behind series and compare it to what is really in the Bible. Though the LB series is fiction, many people still follow its ideas. Many concepts of Satan are also derived from stories written after the Bible's time.
If they still want to complain, remind them they are lucky to practice their harmful religion in the USA. |

This is going to be so predictable: Lucifer and his fallen angels are going to be hideous, disfigured, freakish, and ugly, and the angels of heaven are going to be aryan supermodels and buff, shirtless dudes.

Well, if I remember my D&D days, the fundies took particular offense to a game with "real" demons and devils. And more to the point, there was a big controversy about a Dragon magazine article that turned various "real" angels into D&D monsters. Fundies don't like the idea of people getting their freak on slaughtering arch angels 'n' crap. In Islam (which takes many of the angels from the bible), angels are an important article of faith. In many non-fundy christian traditions, there's no real overt dogma that compels belief in real actual angels, unlike the case of Islam. If you don't 100% believe in angels, you don't believe in Islam.
Anyway, a sword and sandals movie set in heaven that involves buzzing around "the holy presence" and maybe killing angels, might not sit well with some loud religious types. |
