Hello. I am in the process of trying to convince my old boss to send me a LOR but the problem is that she doesn't know what it is. How do I explain to her how to fill one out. What exactly does it look like and can it be scanned and emailed or does it have to be an original handwritten copy?

When I attended immigration with my old 'dip-ship' boss he was made to make a statememnt in writing that I would no longer be working for his 'educational institute'. Then he specifically filled out some additional paper work that terminated my E-2 visa. An exit order was then attached to my passport which stated I had to leave the country no later than 15 days. Sure enough I left on the 15th day, and returned on an E-7 visa. I would strongly advise that you both attend immigration together to fill out the afermentioned paperwork, and a Korean friend who can clarify that the 'i's' have been dotted, and the 't's' have been crossed!!

Hope this helps-The Charge

Oh, your in the states, and from what I remember (your previous posts) you left part way through your contract. Sorry to say but there is a slight difference between you, and I:My boss fired me due to my British accent (I ship you not) and thus was breaking the contract. In your case, you broke the contract, and therefore I would summize your boss will not be forthcoming in granting you a letter of release. Thus you will have to wait until your original contractual period ends!! If he is an untypical Hogwon boss then he maybe forthcoming with the LOR. Good luck!!

Thanks. If I do convince the boss to grant me that, does she only need to send a copy to me or to immigration too?

Hmmm, I'm not having a go fella, but that seems to be a rather logical answer!! Obvioulsy immigration needs the LOR for their records!!

Umm, you are in the States. I am not sure. I guess it would be a good idea for her to send you one and send one to immigration.

But, I am not 100% sure, so don't quote me on that.

I hate to break it to ya, but I seriously doubt you'll get a LOR. A LOR "releases" you of your job and responsiblities. You did release yourself by your midnight run. You apologized for your conduct in this forum, but how about your previous employers?

If you really want that LOR you'll have ta do some serious apologize'n, kowtowing and probably a monetary reparation.

Why do you even need it? Are you seriously thinking of giving it a go here again? If so, you really need to think about that. G'luck anyways!

Yeah I am actually thinking about it. But it looks like I'm out of luck till the visa expires next January.

Not necessarily. Apply for your visa at home - if you get it before you come, there isn't any problem. Your chances may be higher if you apply to work in a different province than you did before.

Yea, but why not try to make amends with his previous employer? This may come back and bite him in the butt. Like I said though, he may have to "buy" his LOR.

What do you mean by that? Do you think they'll be out to get me if they know I'm back in Korea?

They could try to recoup the money you owe them (airfaire for example) if they find out you are back in Korea.

This might not be very likely to occur but since you were wondering...

So say, for example. If I find a job that will hire me in Korea (I am dead serious about it this time), and they sponsor my visa, etc. , what will happen when I have to head down to Boston to get my visa approved at the ROK consulate?
