I have been feeling under the weather since Tuesday and I am sure that it is due to exhaustion. My questions is, how do I go about taking sick leave? Do I just call up the school/coteacher in the morning and tell them I feel like crap and voila?
This is what my contract says:
Article 15 (Sick Leave) ① Employee shall be entitled to a paid sick leave if an illness or injury prevents him/her from performing the duties under this Contract, provided, however, that he/she obtains Employer's prior consent.
② When Employee takes a sick leave for more than seven (7) days (inclusive of a national holiday, Saturday, and Sunday), Employee shall submit a practicing doctor's medical report to Employer.
③ Employee's paid sick leave during the Term of Employment shall not exceed fifteen (15) calendar days(inclusive of a national holiday, Saturday, and Sunday). If Employee requires a sick leave for more than fifteen (15) calendar days, Employee may take a further sick leave without pay.

14 sick days...holy crap. I'd start cashing in right now.
That's like 14 extra holidays. Even if I wasn't sick I'd use up at least 10 of those daysw. |

| Lucky you lot, I get jack! When I took the day off because I was vomitting blood, they classed that as a days holiday leave. I have only just found this little gem out. There reasoning being that because I wasn't admitted to hospital it cannot count as sick leave. w*a*n*kers. And this is a company not a school! |

Use them or loss them is my new motto.
I tried to be nice and asked to use one of my vacation days and they said no, so that one is unpaid. However, I now will be taking a day off every chance I can get. I have Wed. with no classes, so I will use most of them for that day. I was also told by my co-teacher that I can use them for taking an afternoon off after my classes. So, I can use them on a Friday when I am finished at lunch, leave at 1 ('till 5) and that is a half day of sick time. Cool. |

By the look of what you have written you work at a public school. From what I have heard, depending on your school, you might have to go in and show them how sick you are or just call up your supervisor and tell them that you are sick and aren't coming in.

I took one yesterday. I was midly sick and my dog was really sick, so I felt it was justified. I have this WASPy work ethic where I never take sick days, so tey know its serious if I call in. This was my first one in 9 months.
FYI, cultural thing: You MUST call your supervisor (for me its the VP) and tell them, even if they can't understand. Then you can call a teacher who can speak English. That way the VP doesn't look out of the loop when teh lowly KTeacher comes in to tell them the waygook is sick. |

Just phone your immediate supervisor and tell them you are sick and taking the day off to go see the doctor.
Spend 3000 won and see any doctor and tell him you feel bad.
He will give you a prescription for a vitamin that will cost you 2000 won and a note to take another day off to recover.
Rest, relax and you will feel much better in a couple days. |
